I am the one and only (11 дней назад)
These look lovely, I'd personally rather have one of these or a Kia Cee'd GT than a Focus ST or Astra VXR etc.

Why is Hyundai forcing the US to make do with the Veloster N and not sending us the I30N? They have the regular I30 in the US, fairly well liked and with Ford not sending the ST to the US, apart from the VW Golf and AMG GLA (both pricey), not a lot of choice in the hot hatch world. That said, the US also lacks the awesome BMW 1 series hatchbacks, which just looks so much fun.
Andrew Keys (1 месяц назад)
Wish we got this in the US.
Vosovogalsyncope (2 месяца назад)
Love my RS, but this looks great. Nice to see more hatches in the segment. More cars to check out at car meets!
Kyle Martin (2 месяца назад)
Awesome review. 1 question- what's the clutch like? Is there lots of feel, easy engagement and mid bite point? Thanks
Road and Race (2 месяца назад)
It’s a great clutch. Nice and light with a good bite point

damn I wish theyd sell this car in the States
James Cortez (3 месяца назад)
Too fat, too heavy period. Weight is the enemy of performance and fuel consumption. Fail!
James Cortez (3 месяца назад)
Golf Gti is lighter by about 200- 220 lbs and that is a lot. Peugeot 308 Gti 270 PS (Hp?) version is about 450 - 500 lbs lighter. Even heavier than the WRX which has four wheel drive or All Wheel drive. There is a reason why Gordon Murray is so obsessed about building lightweight cars. So the conclusion is: it is substantially heavier than its main rivals and it will affect either performance or fuel consumption or both combined. NOt good enough Hyundai.
Road and Race (3 месяца назад)
Not that heavy by today’s standards. Which new hatch is lighter?
Martin Zvarík (3 месяца назад)
Good review... have you driven new Seat Cupra 300 ?

Thanks Martin. No, but I’d like to. Have you?

Hello Peter here,a petrolhead from Sweden.I think your channel is great with very good content! That i30n seems to bee a very competent hot hatch in my eyes.I will be ordering my i30n next year!😀

That’s great to hear. I really enjoyed it.

You didn't experience front wheel tramping under power in the wet then. Check out Petrol Ped review recently

This is only the beginning from Hyundais N devision. The redesigned 2019 Veloster is the next vehicle to receive the N treatment from Albert Biermann and crew. It should be released this fall in the states with the regular versions this summer.

Looks like a great car and serious value for money compared to the rivals! Also.. 47psi on the front seems crazy high! How accurate was the tyre PSI meter?!
Road and Race (4 месяца назад)
Pretty accurate I think, tyre pressures went up 9 psi after about 15 mins on the track
Bat MikiPig (4 месяца назад)
I can't understand... Cheaper than wich hot hatch? This, type r, focus rs, s3 costs all around 37k here. The less expensive is the megane

Funny how quick hyundai has changed from cheep crap to wow how nice is this, who would have thought that hyundai will be a rival for golf...

It’s not quicker than it’s counter parts as you claim in your intro..O-60 is claimed to be 6.1 secs.Carwow have speedo recorded it at 6.6 secs.Oh dear!

Joe Blogs for the price, yes, nothing is better than the i30 in this category. Drive it first before making up your mind. And no, I am not on commission
Joe Blogs (1 месяц назад)
Bubbles Bubbles Come on! nothing comes close! 😂 You on commission or what.
Bubbles Bubbles (1 месяц назад)
Guys, stop focusing on 0-100 times. They are not so relevant in telling how exciting a car can be to drive . The i30n is very engaging to drive and is heaps of fun all round. I just sold my 1 year old golf gti 7.5 performance and got the i30n performance. Straight line speed is perhaps similar but the i30n is well well ahead of the golf in terms of overall driver engagement, feel, and excitement. I car is amazing for the price. Nothing comes close, nothing !
이소망 (3 месяца назад)
its hard to get the actual claimed 0-60 accurately every single time because it really depends on the driver and the weather
Joe Blogs (4 месяца назад)
Road and Race Just watched Parker’s review. They did a drag race and the i30 N won by a split second.🤔 The 2017 Gulf GTI is 6.2 secs. The 2016 Gulf GTI is 6.4secs.

It looks like a very good effort from Hyundai but it then goes and over complicates matters with an insane amount of set up/driving menu's and 3 different driving modes. What is it witb these modern hot hatches? Keep things simple, 1 driving mode for eco, normal and if you want a sport mode, dont over do it. Only 1 of its competitors sticks with the keep it simple method and thats Peugeot's 308 GTi 270 and that hammers this in pretty much every driving scenario (handling, comfort, fuel economy and simplicity). The down side is the i30N will follow the 308 GTi 270 and end up being over looked because people will be buying a Golf GTi instead....
Tony B (4 месяца назад)
theRealAV8r when you understand why Peugeot have done what they did (and where it may not seem like its perfect it actually makes sense), for all the functions available, they added them at eye level, all other manufacturers in the vast majority of cases add their heating controls below eye level, which means you take your eyes off the road when adjusting them. There is some sense in trying to be an ergornomic game changer (same with looking over the steering wheel rather than through it). I also never said the 308 GTi was perfect, but its basic mechanical principles show you that you dont require 5 driving modes, the other 2 Peugeot Sport models dont have a sport mode, the 208 GTi is widely accepted as being best in class and the RCZR was deemed better than cars like the Audi TT and Nissan 370 (Nismo). Evo also did a group test with the i30N which is an interesting read.
theRealAV8r (4 месяца назад)
Tony B A central touch screen for basic controls? What planet do you live on? Tell that to Honda and all the other makers reverting to knobs for certain basics due to customer demand. I've seen valid criticism of the car, nothing's perfect, including your over complexed Peugeot. But your ridiculously self contradictory diatribe is the most fickle and invalid I've ever seen. You think touch screen embedded hvac, a universally hated design, is superior to one physical button on the steering wheel?? Never mind me, are you even listening to yourself? LOL Last one's yours, pointless arguing with a fanboy blinded by confirmation bias.
Tony B (4 месяца назад)
theRealAV8r having owned a 308, the controls are not over complicated, its not hard to press an up or down arrow on the touch screen, even easier to set and press auto. And 1 button to get beast mode? Ehy do you need a button in the first place? Thats the problem, you shouldnt need to stiffen the suspension, change chassis, engine note etc, the fact that the i30N has THAT many options to mess with makes it over complex to start with when it should be a drive and go car.
theRealAV8r (4 месяца назад)
Tony B Yes I do understand, but I'm saying your argument is nonsensical. What could possibly be simpler that ONE button to put the car in full hot hatch beast mode? And, you're conveniently ignoring mine, ie the sheer overcomplication of basic controls in the Peugeot.
Tony B (4 месяца назад)
theRealAV8r i see you are not really understanding what I am saying here, cars like the 308 GTi 270 and the Megane RS 275 are simplistic, none complex cars, you just get in and drive them, no need to mess around with settings, it does everything out of the box, even now the Renault Sport Megane 275 is still a benchmark car that others aim to beat, and they no longer make it, no multi settings, just good old set ups that beat all this electronic crap they keep adding to cars that make you "think" they are better when really you dont need any of it. To prove a simple point, all but one of the reviews that put the 308 GTi against the i30N have had the 308 dominating, its not a complex car, its one that sticks to the basic concept of the hot hatch, KISS.

Finally found the time to watch this episode 😊 So great to see you having this much fun! The overboost function is something I didn't see being communicated through german media yet, interesting to know that! In Germany from what I know it's around 9000 Euro cheaper than a Golf GTI Performance with less power. And it really looks good, not too crazy like a civic type r. Which is surely a great great hot hatch, too, but you really have to like its style. Hopefully you can once check the new Megane RS, too. I would be extremely interested how you like this one. Keep going and greetings from Bavaria
Road and Race (4 месяца назад)
Big thanks as always mate. Wow, that really is a good deal! Would love to drive the Megane, I might give them an email and ask!
Murray Spink (4 месяца назад)
Would you swap your M3 for one?
Road and Race (4 месяца назад)
Good question. Really hard to choose. The i30N has better gadgets and better mpg. The M3 was a more expensive car new so the pedigree shows through. Hard choice but I’ll choose the M3. If the i30N had a softer suspension setting for cruising it’d probably win though.

M140i, say no more, status, ride, resale value.
Kilerkg (4 месяца назад)
Too expensive in my opinion.
Chris Corbett (4 месяца назад)
Both are great cars but both cost more and have less gadgets as standard so that doesn't make the i30n expensive. Looks are down to personal taste I find the cupra too boring and the i30n is nowhere near the level of OTT as the Type R is. It's understated but not boring.
Baby Sinclair (4 месяца назад)
Leon Cupra and Peugeot 308 gti are almost at the same Price, yet offer better performance and don't look like a Rice-mobile.
Chris Corbett (4 месяца назад)
How on earth did you come to that conclusion? If offers way more for way less than any other rival.

Mr Marrow (4 месяца назад)
I drove one of the very first Performance versions a few months ago. Yes, it was pretty quick but overall I was left feeling a little underwhelmed. At that price, I'd prefer a new M140i or even a 2nd hand M2. Resale values are expected to be poor based on feedback from the dealer.
iluvcakes19 (3 месяца назад)
Mr Marrow perhaps it's magic doesn't reveal itself until you open it up a little
Graham Reid (4 месяца назад)
The m140 is nearly double the price??? Lol I don't get this with ppl who say resale will be poor compared to a golf or BMW, yes maybe but you paid half what the BMW would be duh!
RotrexfezST (4 месяца назад)
Mr Marrow no it’s not expensive for a 5 year warranty with all the options it has.you say you don’t need the options, which you are partly right but it’s nice to have them isn’t it.the engine in a 140i is a boring generic turbo engine that lacks character. All cars are the same now days with the straight 6 turbo,I’d take the i30n over the boring looks of a 140i alone.we ain’t all going to like the same cars but the i30n for the money is simply unbeatable :)
Mr Marrow (4 месяца назад)
Hi - well that's a better deal than I was quoted back in January. Your deal of around £5460/year (£455/month) - which includes your deposit - still seems quite expensive? You mentioned 'spec' - most are frivolous, I mean who needs reversing camera and heated steering wheel... it's hardly pure driving? Just focusing on the engines... the 140i's 3 litre straight six is a peach. Anyway, it's horses for courses.
RotrexfezST (4 месяца назад)
Mr Marrow I’ve got a pcp price 3k deposit £330 a month brand new high spec car that will be a far better spec then a 140i at that price with a 5 year warranty.ive got an M3 as well and 140i’s are Great cars but 100% lack magic, drive an M car then drive these watered down M lites they just ain’t the same.the Hyundai handles as good as a Mégane has a spec list most 140i owners dream off and some dealers are doing them with a winter pack 26k.

kingsmeadow (4 месяца назад)
Chris Corbett you can pay 2000+ to upgrade the BMW nav twice (from base to business to pro) and it still won't have apple carplay or Bluetooth entertainment or reversing camera because those are additional options. BMW pricing is so fucked
Chris Corbett (4 месяца назад)
The base 235i costs over £6.5k more than the i30n and it doesn't even come with an LSD so good luck getting that extra power down. By the time you've got all the options to compare it to the i30n you're talking £40k. On top of that It's not even a hatchback, so you're comparing apples to oranges. The m140i is a good comparison but it's still more expensive and the manual gearbox is gash so wasn't for me.
