The only thing I recommend is GET YOUR OWN DISCOUNT CARD. Every day you put good rx discount cards on peoples medication, but if you get your own, you can make 2$ per prescription, and refills too... Make double the money doing the same job smh... this one is probably the best i've found. https://patientrxdiscount.com/affiliate-sign-up/ref/1293/

worst job ever..please don't go to school for this. it's a horrible job. I worked as a PT for 8 years. I made over 20 and hr and worked full time hating every day. I was good at what I did and really progressed into lead tech. eventually being requested by pharmacist around my chain. Eventually I came to terms with how much I disliked it and literally barely finished my last 3 weeks when i put my notice in. I t was a stressful job with alot of pressure from pharmacist , patients , Doctors and insurance. everything is on your shoulders and at the end of your day your feet kill if u stand all day. mentally emotionally and physically exhausting. think twice before you do this. or at least talk to a handful of them before u really decide to do it. talk to one's who not only currently work there but have worked there in past.
Yelena alex (1 год назад)
Retail. I had friends who worked in pharmacy and they said it was even worse. Too much room for mistakes ..

I'm a pharmacy tech for over 10 years, this can be a great career and you can make great money, but it is one that very by state in the USA. What you make in one state is not what you may make in another. Each state has it's own regulations for what a pharmacy tech can do? This is a career that you can do well in, but it again does depend on what state or in and what job your preforming, but mostly you and what you bring to the company?
Edward Elk (2 года назад)
most of the pharmacist tech i know (most of) is go for money, easy job, good benefit (401k, heatlh care, sick pay, vacation pay. etc) so few of the people i know that tried to work from phar tech to real pharmacist. seriously you gonna counting tablet and pick up phone call every day. you barely mix stuff unless you work for real hospital.
Items that are penisified. (5 месяцев назад)
Edward Elk buddy you make creams as a pharm tech everywhere.. you've just not been trusted with that responsibility. Seriously its a crappy job with shit pay for what u deal with every single day.

And in case anyone wants to challenge this, that is including outside hospitals, 2 hospices one for children, and 3 clinics for psychiatric patients. We are undervalued. It is tough and you have to be prepared to be shouted at.
sk c (2 года назад)
13 years technician in NHS hospital. You know what the worse thing is? Dealing with staff who think we are a 'shop' or a ' store'. That it all arrives by magic. That each and every department in the hospital expects 5 or less staff to deliver to 35 wards instantly. It is my career and more my vocation but I know from experience it is a stressful experience

Alexis Pettijohn (1 год назад)
Dermatological creams don't have to be made in a sterile environment in most states in the US. Many retail pharmacies don't offering any compounding other than non sterile.

Don't waste your time training for a pharmacy tech job.  I have been a pharmacy tech for 25 years and I only made $29,000 last year (working full time).  The pay SUCKS!!!!
Novelust (2 года назад)
That's exactly what I mean; I live in Florida and it seems like opportunities for pharmacy techs are much greater, reinforcing that it depends on the state. I don't receive government assistance, I just took the test when I was pretty young so the program was willing to pay. There are also more public institutions than private who have such programs and are board approved. Bottom line - it depends on the state.
Shannah Smith (2 года назад)
Thousands of dollars is true at a private instution in Louisiana. A few community colleges in Louisiana offer a lower price. Per The Louisiana Board of Pharmacy all training programs must be nationally certified. The people I know who take classes and test for FREE are those who get government (tax payer) assistance.
Novelust (2 года назад)
+Shannah Smith You don't have to pay thousands of dollars to become a certified pharmacy tech today either. The fact that you even said that shows me you may not know as much about how the field has changed in 25 years. It can still  be on the job training and there are private institutions and schools who teach the program as well; I did both and I paid nothing, not even for the test. Again, this isn't everywhere, but to say you have to pay "a trade school thousand of dollars" isn't always correct and is misleading. Also, neither you nor +Chris Samurai are stupid; you're equally discussing the topic and don't need to make personal jabs.
Shannah Smith (2 года назад)
+Chris Samurai 25 years ago I did not have to pay a trade school thousand of dollars to become a certified pharmacy tech. It was on the job training. Chris you are stupid.

Bottom feeders. I have worked as a pharmacy tech for independents and chains for over 5 years. This is a dead end job for tools because there is virtually no room for advancing past  $20/hour ( this is what 40 year old lead techs makes, working over 20 years). You need to register, get licensed, and then do CEs every year, all for welfare money. I learned on the job, but recently people have been paying "schools" thousands of dollars to basically help them study for the exam. RUN from this! If you just need an indoor job, just work in a warehouse for the same money sans stress.

Retail pharmacies are so slow.  I work in long term care and I have to fill three times as many prescriptions as retail workers do.  It is HECTIC and non stop work but the good part is not having to deal directly with the customers.
Kung Lao (3 года назад)
+DravenWolfe If you live in the United States you should try and apply for omnicare pharmacy,  It is basically talking with other technicians and filling prescriptions all day long.  Time goes by quick as well.  And good thing about omnicare is that you can choose to move up to order entry or I.V. if you wanted.
DravenWolfe (3 года назад)
+Kung Lao Right now I am working as a CVS Pharmacy Technician, I do enjoy it but it can be a Pain the Ass, you do not really get anything done unless you ignore the customers. And you get a wide range of them from super kind to the biggest A-holes in the world. eventually I would like to work at Hospital or specialized pharmacy, where I can just work on filling and not have to deal with Customers (too often, :) )
Kung Lao (3 года назад)
+david yang yeah I mentioned that at the end there "the good part is not having to deal directly with the customers."  I just said we fill way more orders thats all. Never said it was harder.  I heard many stories of work in retail.  Retail is corporation driven sweat shop lol.
david yang (3 года назад)
+Kung Lao That is because we don't have to deal with customers asking you questions or yelling at you for something that you have no control over, phone calls, drive thru etcs.I worked at both settings and imao the retail pharmacies are way harder.

Idk what state or country they live in but as far as i know, that pharmacist could lose his job for letting a 16 year old unlicensed high school student to a technicians work. At least in Arkansas you MUST be licensed by the state before you can even touch medicine. I work in a pharmacy and thats the law here anyway
Novelust (2 года назад)
I find it so interesting that states can differ so much with their rules. In Florida, you can be young and extern because they see that as an opportunity to teach young people so they'll be ready by the time they can actually join the work force/take the exams.
CH1CK3NxSALAD (3 года назад)
When i was 16 and i got a work permit this one guy who owned a pharmacy let me intern there for 2 months and i made a mistake and i gave someone too many oxycontins and he gave me a false script and i gave him xanax (alparazam) and not only did i get fired and i was under investigation by the DEA the guy who hired me got 8 years probation and he got like a felony or something and he was looking at federal prison time. I got in so much trouble. Either way you're right! People that are unlicensed can't work in pharmacies. Not only that I got something on my record that can't be expunged and i could never be a pharmacist. It was my dream too. They thought I stole drugs and gave them to someone I knew. But I didn't even know the guy and I was just doing my job filling scripts.

Pharmacies dont make creams in the uk
MrGaggymott (4 года назад)
The Pharmacist in this New Zealand production mentioned that 'the PT can't check a prescription off.'  Whilst this may be correct for that particular country, more and more jobs are being delegated to PTs. In the UK, provided that the Technician is Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council, and holds the necessary (extra) qualification as an Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician, the final check may be completed by a Technician. (By Law, the Pharmacist must CLINICALLY and LEGALLY CHECK the Rx prior to dispensing.) If the PT is a Full Member of The Association of Pharmacy Technicians of the UK, they may also use 'MAPharmT' after their name. - Just some info, on how the Profession regulates differently in different countries. ;-)
Jason James Victoriano (4 года назад)
You may be correct on a national level but it is also about searching and not settling for less and seeking different and competitive wage-offering companies or entities to make more than $20 an hour.

neon tropic. Work in the labs they pay more. Maybe be even become a pharmacist, but you'd have to be a relief pharmacist in the start and I bet that would be a hellish experience.
Tcaw C (5 лет назад)
AHAHA YEA THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I SAID.
rich1joy (5 лет назад)
You are correct, but there is no exam for the board. The board required application submission with $105 and requested documentation showing the validity of a training program and Medication Error training as well. Certiication is administered through PTCB and ExCpt.
shechshire (5 лет назад)
Again, it depends where you live. Here in miami they start out in between $10-$16. I'm not sure if you know though but most corporate companies start you at $8 for the first three months & then move you on to $12. In FL you need to have a vocational certificate in order to take the accredited board exam. You don't need a degree to be a pharmacy technician but, you need a degree if you want to be a pharmacist.
Rachel Werne (5 лет назад)
Walmart only offers $8 per hour to start with certification. It's piss poor pay, but what do you expect from a company that doesn't want to pay a living wage to it's workers? - Being a tech doesn't require academic education, that's bullshit spewed by for-profit schools, I know this because I have a degree that is worth toilet paper in pharmacy technology. You don't need a degree to get certified and licensing is optional. Walgreens starts in around $10 per hour for certified PhTs.
Jillian Ramirez (10 месяцев назад)
Depends on the state you live.
shechshire (5 лет назад)
Well, for people just looking to make more money at a real job so that they can pay through college & thier bills, it sure as hell beats working at the cheesecake factory.
shechshire (5 лет назад)
$8... $10...$15? Were are you getting these numbers from? lol it depends were you live. 8 is way too low for a job that requires academic education for certification & license.

for that particular company you do get raises when your employer sees you have excelled in what is required of you. Their is a bi-anual evaluation you should already know about, which your results should be discussed with you, if they explain you need to improve their is no recommendation for a pay raise. I always get pay raises, it's possible you are not exceeding or meeting expectations.

Depends on the state too. In Alaska and Washington they make a little bit more per hour than any other state but after a year it makes a huge difference.
Katey Djokovic (6 лет назад)
A pharmacist would have to be the pharmacy manager to even get close to that amount. There is a set amount for people in the NHS.
TheFlanker35 (6 лет назад)
In the US, pharmacists and techs actually earn less in hospitals than in retail. Of course, pharmacists themselves in the US make a lot of money. In retail, the average pharmacist earns about $110,000, which is usually about 75,000 pounds. The average hospital pharmacist earns about $100,000. So the disparity between pharmacists and pharmacy techs is enormous.
Katey Djokovic (6 лет назад)
Wow! I think (especially in a hospital setting) a tech has a lot of responsibility. There is a lot of checking and a pharm tech is expected to do a job correctly so to minimise and make some of the many jobs a pharmacist has.
TheFlanker35 (6 лет назад)
That's much higher than in the US. In the US, techs get just above minimum wage.
TheFlanker35 (6 лет назад)
Techs don't have to have any formal schooling in the US usually, but many have to have some training and cursory drug knowledge per company policy. Techs make about $10 an hour. Pharmacists have to go to school for 6 years. They make anywhere from $70K-$130K per year, but their likely to face high unemployment in 2015 because of massive supply increases.
TheFlanker35 (6 лет назад)
Top step techs at independent pharmacies can clear 20 an hour. It's not a good thing though.
victormania2008 (6 лет назад)
the best place to work is in a hospital but no in a pharmacy.
sailornaruto39 (6 лет назад)
In the US, do they provide on the job training?
Katey Djokovic (6 лет назад)
In the UK it takes 2 years of training to become a qualified tech. You have to complete an NVQ level 3 in Pharmacy Services, and usually a Btec in Pharmacy Services. In training now, a person can be lucky to get the minimum wage thanks to the new "apprentice" pay level which is about £2.50 an hour. But once qualified the starting wage (in a hospital) is £18.5k a year.
