Wow you are sooo smart and you make everything look soooo easy. Was it that easy for you when you were in school? Like did you just get everything right away?
RegisteredNurseRN (1 год назад)
Aww, thanks for the kind comment, Julia. No, I wish lol! I had to study hard, and then when I became a nurse and started to gain experience it started to click. I just want to share my nursing knowledge with you all so you can succeed. Thank you for the comment and for watching my videos.

I'd also add that another good tool is utilizing colors. I've found that even if I wasn't able to remember something exactly, I can remember writing something about it in say purple. Then I remember that for this chapter I assigned purple to anti-hypertensives. It helps narrow the choices down at least!

I love your videos !! I am going in to month 3 of a "condensed" LPN program. A class mate sent me a link to your Medical Math (weight base calculations) and I think it's helping out already. We have started Pharmacology and just when I think I am getting it . . . I'm not quite there. I would like to add a study guide and was wondering if you could suggest one that you have used or liked. I have subscribed and will keep watching. Thanks, JC

Hi Sarah, this video was very helpful! I was wondering what information do you recommend writing on the drug card?
RegisteredNurseRN (1 год назад)
Hello :) Thanks for watching the video. I would write drug category, diseases the drug is used to treat, side effects, therapeutic drug level (if applicable) and most definitely important nursing interventions to watch out for with the drug. Also, any mnemonics or memory aids to help you remember the drug. I hope that helps.

I'm having such a hard time right now. I'm an A student who blazed through our first quarter with little trouble, but pharm is kicking my butt. I have an A in Adult Nursing, but am failing pharm. I've done flashcards, cheesy pictographs, watched commericals, and even highlighted my drug-guide, but I couldn't even pass my pain-med test. MY PAIN-MED TEST!!!! It's tylenol and morphine for gosh-sake, how can you fail that?!

I first want to thank you so much for taking time out to teach nursing! I am in my sophomore year of a BSN program and your videos have helped me TREMENDOUSLY (Shout out to the ABG tic tac toe!). I'm so nervous to take Pharm next semester, so many people have talked about how stressful it is, but this video really helped ease some of my uncertainty and makes me feel at least a little bit prepared. Please keep the videos coming! - Amanda!
RegisteredNurseRN (1 год назад)
Hello Amanda :) Thank you so much for your kind comment. I'm very happy the videos have helped you out, especially the TIC TAC TOE for ABGs, which is a lifesaver for ABG problems on nursing lecture exams haha. Pharm really isn't that bad as long as you go into with a study plan and use one of the study resources I recommended in the video. I wish you the best when you take it next semester. I hope you enjoy your winter break and have a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

I know its random to ask. But I wanted to ask if you knew of any other resources to know more about medications and also resources on phlebotomy and labs.
RegisteredNurseRN (1 год назад)
Either the 6th or 7th edition will work fine. If you want to save money go with the 6th version and try to buy a used copy. Amazon usually has the best deal on it.
Patricia M. (1 год назад)
For the Book you recommended, what edition would say is more helpful? but thanks again!!
RegisteredNurseRN (1 год назад)
Hello Patricia :) Great question! Personally, I like to have one book that tells me everything regarding medications and labs...so I recommend Saunders NCLEX Comprehensive review guide. If you need these resources for your nursing exams and NCLEX...it is the best book because it has a section dedicated to labs and medications based on body system (ex: GI, cardiac, oncology etc). Regarding phlebotomy, I think the best resource for that is experience...while in clinicals try to jump at every opportunity to draw blood. I also have some videos on phlebotomy if you're interested in them: https://www.youtube.com/user/RegisteredNurseRN/search?query=phlebotomy I hope that helps! Thanks for watching my videos!

Thank you for the video! It was informative! I'm almost done with my first semester but I am struggling a little bit still with pharmacology! I plan on reviewing my meds over winter break. Do you have any other tips/advice to make the most of my break? I plan to watch your "How To Study For Medical Surgical Nursing" once I finish my finals. Thank you for your time and teaching!
RegisteredNurseRN (2 года назад)
Thank you very much for watching my videos. During the break, I would review basic groups of drugs and get familiar with them....like heart medication: beta blockers, ACE inhibitors, ARBs, antibiotics etc. If you haven't developed your own flash cards or purchased some I would and just review those. Also, try to find free quizzes online...like quizlet. But don't forget to enjoy your break...because you have earned it :)
leestagurlose7en (2 года назад)
Hello, would you recommend reading the entire chapters or skimming when it comes to studying for pharm? Pharm has been a very challenging class in my first semester of nursing school..
RegisteredNurseRN (2 года назад)
Great question! Personally, what I done was skim the chapters, read the reviews are the end, and chapter summaries. Then I would review my class notes and I used a pharmacology study guide (here it is...you will find it in this article I wrote: http://www.registerednursern.com/how-to-study-for-pharmacology-in-nursing-school/). I found reading the chapters word-for-word wasted a lot of valuable time I could use studying. You have to study smart, and I found this to be the best for me. I hope that helps :)

One thing that helped me was to develop my own mnemonics or silly jingles to help me remember the material. Also, try to develop questions and do repeat memorization, and try to find free pharm quizzes online that will help you narrow down the important information about each drug type. Hang in there pharm is hard :)
