Facebook’s global expansion has been linked to political turmoil overseas, so maybe their ads should focus less on how they “connect the world” and more on why connecting people isn’t always the best idea.

Facebook should have been shut down years ago when severe human right violations where being noted from their business models, market models and data models. But we didn't. We didn't shut down Facebook and were praising Mark Zuckerberg like some humble, humanitarian visionary. When the Cambridge Analytica scandal came along, what did the Senate do? A slap on the wrist for a now one of the richest persons in the world, all coming from earning from our personal information (even when you are not on Facebook) and basically executing any form of competition to them (That Facebook is biggest in a lot of developing countries isn't because they simply were the best, it is because Facebook made sure that any competitor could not get access to a lot of people there). Even here in Europe, the EU trial committee wanted to take selfies with Mark Zuckerberg after he mentioned that he needed to catch his flight, bare in mind, while being under trial. Yes, this guy thinks he is so far above the rest that he lies to the Senate, doesn't take a trial by the EU seriously, keeps lying and manipulating to everyone in the world, all under the so-called "mission to connect the world". Bullshit! Mark Zuckerberg is just megalomanic greedy asshole who keeps playing everyone for own benefit. He should not be in a CEO chair, rather, he should be trialed for crimes against humanity. No passes on rights or responsibilities, period.
I quit posting on Facebook recently. I'd had issues with their connections to Russian election interference for a while, but the final straw was when it came out that when that scandal broke, they hired a far Right think tank to use anti-Semitic conspiracy theories about how George Soros was behind the criticisms of Facebook (not too long after, Soros was one of the targets of the pipe bomber). I consider Facebook fully culpable in the rise of Neo-Fascism and domestic terrorism.
I refuse to use Facebook for this very reason. If you’re going to start policing what people say censuring things and calling it “hate speech” there is literally no longer any point in reading or saying anything on Facebook. It all becomes a diluted and filtered representation of people’s actual opinions and facts and it just becomes a propaganda tool for whatever political or social ideaology that Facebook happens to subscribe to that day. I’m thankful I live in America where there are no hate speech laws and the sanctity of the first amendment is both understood and respected by the law,. If I lived in Mark zuckerburgs utopian social death camp autocracy id be much worse off.
He's called the Buddhist Bin Laden for speaking the truth and telling it like it is. John's leftist culture fight exactly what it was designed for. To keep the sheep fighting eachother and ignoring the real monsters.
Facebook is still one of our best inventions if at most used for Messenger. C'mon! A Streamlined, convenient communication tool with free global talk, texting, sharing of digital content and video calls.
If Muslims are causing widespread hate towards them, then maybe it's because they've caused it and not because of facebook. Every movement goes through the same proces of people being critically about it. Facebook showed just as many pro-Muslim videos as there were made by users. People are free to post their love or hate for anything they want and only them should be responsible for it...
You can NEVER accuse a form of media for spreading the messages PEOPLE themselves spread! I'm a big fan of last week tonight, but they're just trying to follow the vocal minority here. If they don't agree, they should remove their content from Facebook and forget how popular it became because of things like youtube and facebook.
Am sorry but Facebook is taking too many shit for not being able to control assholes. Like this can apply to the internet in general. Like if they somehow managed to block every mf in the planet we still need to deal with the mf in our real life and who is going to block those? Not fb, people.
It is sad to see John Oliver and so many others have such little faith in mankind. Facebook is just a pure reflection of people, if you have crappy friends you will have a crappy Facebook, that is by no means fault of Facebook, that is your choice for being with them. You can even remain friends while hiding their content by unfollowing, there is no excuse to complain about your feed when you choose who appears in it. And most importantly, whether people say their racist, stupid or generally hateful believes in Facebook, Whats-app or YouTube, truth remains that they will continue to think it and the best thing we can do is not censure, but teach, argue, debate, show evidence. And last resort, just separate yourself from people that don't do you any good.
FB shows just how widespread the lowest of humanity truly is, but wrapped up in a pumpkin spice and meme-filled internet doughnut. If you want to keep your illusion of the magnificence of humanity intact, stay off of it.
Skip Hoffenflaven it's so true.Humanity has sunk very low.I will give you a for instance.A lone man sits alone in McDonald's speaks to his non existent friend everyday.mean while the hole place is filled with the same people who think they are all that. The man begins to ask everyone in the place for money to buy himself some pants he said he tore on the building. Its evident he's homeless.I hand the man two dollars and tell him to have a nice day.meanwhile a gentleman is getting the manager and tell him he's pan handling.I tell her it's okay.we all know him even the employees. The people with the money are to busy helping themselves and never helping those in need.I seen that with Facebook.I left I will never be famous enough or rich enough for fakebook people.
My moms said I wasn't allowed to have Facebook in 2012. When I went to boarding school at their summer program I created a FB account and then then next time I saw my parents I got so nervous they knew about it, I admitted I had an account in the same fashion someone might have admitted they had snuck out the night before.
Mark practically stole the idea from a couple of others, even making them ignorant on the progress of development. From the beginning, he collected and sold personal information, with the only "consent" being a long and technical EULA agreement to hide their practices. Further, he could have created a non-profit, pumping back the profits in society, but no, he created a for-profit organization, conducted unethical tax evasive practices from the beginning and went to the stock market. And as we all know, stock traders hold barely any form of morality or ethics, only what generates the highest returns for the longest periods. Then he went on and spreaded misinformation about any potential competitor or critic. All while keep lying that Facebook is "Free and always will be free". There were no good intentions, never.
The way politics is going now, if Facebook did the right thing it would essentially have to break with what (mainly Western/American) people consider the ideal form of free speech: a free-for-all that includes freedom from responsibility for our words. Karl Popper saw this all the way back in 1945 - if a society tolerates those who are intolerant, that ability to be tolerant will eventually be seized or destroyed by them. The story of social media over the last ten years has followed that prophetic script to the letter.
So in order to preserve free speech, we need to recognize that it is not absolute and consciously draw the lines of what we consider acceptable. That's a political act, especially because a lot of intolerance these days stems from issues of who gets to be fully human in society (racism, queer and transphobia, xenophobia, etc.). So for social media companies to do that would alienate many of their current users, to the extent that it would cut into their bottom lines. That's a large part of why they don't.
They still need to, of course. You don't argue with tendencies that have historical precedent for creating fascism. You systematically crush them.
In Argentina false news are a big problem, especially with elders and politics... you have no idea how many times i've told my parents not to share or speak about what they read on facebook... last presidential election you could clearly see the mass manipulation campaigns... i'm not saying is fb fault but it is a dangerous tool
"When we create a sense of conflict, then conflict is all that we get. When we create peace and acceptance, then peace is all that we get."
If our goal is to destroy echo chambers, instead of banning hate groups from social media(where they will definitely establish independent platforms further isolating themselves and creating a deeper feeling of "righteousness" and hate since they are being persecuted), we should aim to create social media in way where BOTH groups engage themselves much more often and encourage meaningful conversations.
The muffle against hate speech will one day reciprocate and retaliate against us. As the definition of hate speech or fake news is being used by both sides to muffle the other.
As the official said, "I've never met a Muslim before." I do understand the reason for "personalized feeds"; however, a bit of diversity on BOTH sides will obviously help ease tensions.
Banning them from the internet will simply create more hate. Yes, we sweep it under the rug, but that plant is still growing, even if we imprison them, they will become stronger. And doing such is a violation of human rights and even more importantly, this will inflame the conflict even further. Look at history.
Never become Salem, where the oppressed become oppressors.
Really, we all should learn to respect each others opinions without the genocide. It's something that isn't taught in schools. Yes, Bob might be a Nazi, but as long as he doesn't actually try to kill people, then actually engaging with him in a non-hostile manner(>>Which increases the possibility of changing him<<) will definitely give insight.
Even being a non-tradition mostly liberal demiguy, I would love to talk with Mike Pence and Alex Jones. Will they say some hateful things? Yes. But why should I care? If anything, I'll get a laugh and deeper insight. Don't let the "hate" get to you.Such things are foolish, wisdom always prevails, BUT YOU CANNOT CONVINCE THE OTHER SIDE IF YOU ARE SCREAMING AND YELLING AND CREATING A SENSE OF OVERDOMINANCE. USE PEACE TO ATTAIN PEACE. MOTHER TERESA AND MARTIN LUTHER KING JUNIOR AHHHH. |||||Yeah, yelling is cringy no matter how right you are||||||
Facebook is censoring people the wrong way and allows much of the
material they censor to be shown in a slighly different "subtle way"
thus proving they are hypocrites. They're shutting people out of certain
functions for no reason due to unnecessary censorship and even admitted
to doing this in a statement sent to account holders. Everybody can
tell that Facebook censors things which can easily be matched in terms
of severity by other things they don't censor. And they are censoring
things often times which they have no right to censor such as bare
breasts of women shown which is routinely being shown by women without
being censored thus then the cocksuckers pretend as if they will "get on
the job" about it. Mark Suckerburger looks like a psychopath in his
demeanor and robbed people for millions of dollars and had other people
making most of his money for him. Pussy, censor that. The whole program
is malfunctioning when it comes to many things thus the program failed
and Facebook is 5-0 cooperating heavily with police on the low, nah
mean? This statement is in retaliation for censoring me and getting in
the way of my business, asshole lickers. Mark Suckerburger is eligible
for 25 to life in prison too, by they way, censor that, you Satanic
monkeys. This statement is courtesy of Ibrica Begic the leader of
Democratic, Cultural, Socialist movement (number one ideology of the
world) Fuck Facebook, only check for them every now and then but usually
leave them alone soon to wither away completely as a program, censor
I hate Facebook. Is toilet. In all seriousness, that monk is partially correct and I don't blame him for not wanting his country taken over by a people who basically enslave women and blow themselves up in the name of a magic man in the sky. Of course not all Muslim people are bad, but there were Nazis who were just trying to be good soldiers and get home, too, so sometimes you're guilty by association.
This is a prime example of why you can't just skip steps of development in a nation. You can't just give millions of people a platform that allows them to bully, spread lies, and harm others and say "have fun".
I love this show but they completely missed to showcase to the world the fact that Facebook is stealing our information and selling it to other companies for a profit. Thats the more important issue with Facebook that needs to be touched
They're not stealing, you're giving it away. And your particular information is worthless, Facebooks makes money by aggregating information from many users to help advertisers reach their intended audience better
Community pharmacists are the health professionals most accessible to the public. They supply medicines in accordance with a prescription or, when legally permitted, sell them without a prescription. In addition to ensuring an accurate supply of appropriate products, their professional activities also cover counselling of patients at the time of dispensing of prescription and non-prescription drugs, drug information to health professionals, patients and the general public, and participation in health-promotion programmes. They maintain links with other health professionals in primary health care.
