Bill Maher on meat

Оценок: 937 | Просмотров: 154625
Bill Maher tells the truth about meat. He always likes to look reality in the eye even when his viewers don't like to hear it. He's a man of moral character.

So many tree huggers. Pathetic.

The term "Go Vegan" nowadays is just a way for vegans who can't help but to shout it out to feel a sense of dominance and superiority towards people who love meat. It's like saying it in a middle of a crowd and nobody would care. I think today Veganism isn't a lifestyle anymore but now a new culture that Vegans have the urge to influence on people who are non-vegans, and could someday be as tribalistically controversial as Politics and Religion combined.

Bill Maher eats meat and is a board member of PETA. Not only a walking hypocrite, but part of a shitty organization that kills more animals than it saves. Not sure why everyone reveres this guy so much. Cause he's funny sometimes, I guess.

People get so upset when others bring up negative facts about eating meat. We are all so conditioned and desensitized by the media and the meat and dairy industry that we think it's our right to eat animals. This superiority complex on this issue makes it hard to see others point of view. I cut out dairy for health reasons, and felt so good it was amazing (lost weight, eliminated allergies, relieved asthma). It was hard at first, because so many things have dairy in it! But then I just cut out processed food and it was easy. After researching a bit, I was faced the horror these industries put animals through, that many people don't want to know about. Out of compassion, I cut out meat as well. I've never been happier and healthier, or more conscious of what I put in my body. I don't judge anyone for eating animal products, and I pray people can be more open minded instead of bashing vegans so much. Food is a personal choice, and we all have freedom to choose what we put in our body. Facts are facts and Bill Maher is brave enough to speak the truth. I respect him even more now because he's smart enough to know the backlash he would receive after saying something like this, but did it anyway.

I don't bash Vegans when I say that we are Omnivores. I tell it from the stand point of what science and history tells me. If you don't want to eat meat that is fine, but if you do eat meat, well best to exercise and eat both fruits and vegetables. I eat both meat and plants, and I'm very healthy.

+Gerroh G Methane (cow farts) is a greenhouse gas like carbon dioxide. Livestock is the single biggest contributor of greenhouse gasses. There is about 22 billion animals kept as lifestock. Just let that number sink in and you might understand that this will cause more and more problems the more meat eating  people we get.
Gregory Frowendown (1 год назад)
the funniest part is vegans would never kill all the cows in the world in order to eliminate methane emissions. so we either eat the cows and keep them alive (good for vegans, because they love to see animals) or don't eat cows and let them die.
Brian Diner (2 года назад)
Yes, methane is a greenhouse gas. Yes, methane is detrimental to the environment. However, everyone going vegan would not even help the Earth. One study that looked at different vegan and meat based diets saw that a vegan diet is actually worse overall for the Earth. Here is a quote from the article: "On one hand, the results showed that getting our weight under control and eating fewer calories, has a positive effect on the environment and reduces energy use, water use and GHG emissions from the food supply chain by approximately 9 percent. However, eating the recommended “healthier” foods — a mix of fruits, vegetables, dairy and seafood — increased the environmental impact in all three categories: Energy use went up by 38 percent, water use by 10 percent and GHG emissions by 6 percent." http://www.cmu.edu/news/stories/archives/2015/december/diet-and-environment.html So you can see it's not as simple as, "#GoVegan and save the environment".
Moravian Wallachia (2 года назад)
Correct. But it's in fact already happening. Scientists are currently growing meat in laboratories.... But the way easier solution is simply to stop eating it and take all the vitamins and nutrients directly from plants. It's really not that difficult. I loved meat and especially cheese before, yet here I am, vegan for the past two plus years and all the cravings for animal products are gone. I still crave all sorts of food with the same intensity as I used to crave meat and cheese, but now it's all the vegan meals I'm craving and enjoying so much. It's really not that difficult to give up animal products. You can still enjoy life and food to the fullest. Check out vegan youtube channels such as Hot for food, The Vegan Corner, Cooking With Plants, The brown vegan, Ela Gale, Fablunch and many others. You'll be blown away by the variety and taste.

I really think we need to rethink our farm industry, right from the bottom up. I can name so much stupid or simply wrong shit going on there. 1. Corn, corn, more corn. I love corn, but the swap to corn syrup and high fructose will kill us slowly. 2. Animal conditions are not only ethically wrong, but what we do to them will trickle down to us. Diseases and antibiotic regimens all come to us in the end. We keep them in confined spaces next to other shit covered animals, and we wonder why diseases spread.  3. We are STILL thinking that turning cropland into ethanol fuel is a good idea.  It's just so damned stupid.  I mean, I'm eating chicken as I type this, but we are going to soon be forced to change this stuff, might as well do it now people.

SilentMott (4 года назад)
WE ARE OMNIVORES.  I do think we eat a bit too much meat in this country but to give it up altogether is illogical and frankly unhealthy.  You have a choice in where you purchase your meat.  There are free range organic farms everywhere that sell their meat directly to you and it cost only slightly more than that crap they sell at your everyday store and FAR LESS than Whole Foods or some other stuck up supermarket. Believe it or not farms who sell direct would be stupid to abuse their animals,  they depend on them for income.  I only spend marginally more than I did before I started eating grass fed organic free range meat.
DaProHobbit (1 год назад)
Please link a peer-reviewed study that shows that meat-eaters are healthier than vegans. I can link several that show the opposite.
Jamie Gauci (2 года назад)
In other words, your anecdotes are not of interest because they don't apply to the majority. If you're all so confident about these 'facts', then I'm sure you can back it up with links to studies, that you statistically criticised
Jamie Gauci (2 года назад)
This is quite a good example of how some vegans try to pull the wool over your eyes. It's a bit rich telling someone to look up facts, when you quite clearly don't fully understand evolution. It's not as simple "oh, I can eat meat and I'll be smarter", there has specific environmental conditions for a species to change. Lions are good at being lions, so they don't need to evolve. It is a fact, evolutionary biologists claim that could be a reason why. I saw someone mention something only being a hypothesis?, what has that got to do with anything. A hypothesis is a prediction on what direction you think it'll go, it's a scientifically testable statement. So how exactly does that help your argument? As per every single conversation with vegans, they always point to a few freaks of nature who confirm their opinion. Oh wow!, well done!, you have anecdotal evidence! One of the main concerns science has, is ecological validity. So basically, how applicable is it to the general population
Moravian Wallachia (2 года назад)
+Our Lord and Saviour Nicolas Cage Our brain developed because of increased calorie intake, not because we ate meat. If that was the case, lions and tigers would have to outsmart us, don't you think? It's because we started cooking things, thus being able to gain more calories from the same amount (volume) of food. Get your facts straight, the information is out there. But I guess it's easier to stick to outdated myths that allow you to justify your destructive eating habits.
Moravian Wallachia (2 года назад)
+SilentMott Like meat-eaters don't have to supplement their diets???? Then why the hell is there a drug-store on every corner? As for B12, I'll let you in on a little secret. 99% of people who are B12 deficient are regular meat-eaters. The reason for this is that the whole thing is a bit more complicated than that. Generally, you should be able to get sufficient amount of B12 even on a vegan diet as B12 has it source - surprise, surprise - not in animals but in the soil. That's why Gary Yourofsky is not lacking B12 even after 19 years of veganism and without taking any B12 supplements. He simply buys organic vegetables or grow them on his own and instead of cleaning them like crazy, he simply doesn't overdue it with the cleaning, thus leaving microscopic particles of soil (containing the B12) on the carrot or whatever he indends to eat. It's just that today people are so neurotic and brainwashed when it comes to hygiene that they thing they have to perfectly scrub, brush, clean.. every bite of veggies they put in their mouth. Our ancestors weren't that f#cked up. They simply pulled some carrots from the soil, dipped them briefly probably into some small river stream and that was pretty much it. Also, today the soil is largerly destroyed so that even the animals that humans eat have to get B12 supplements. How about that?

+Moravian Wallachia Yeah. If I ever decide to become vegan, and that's a big if, it's definitely not going to be for saving a bunch of stupid cows. They can all be pushed into a meat grinder for all I care. I don't have time for your pitiful appeal to emotion arguments.
Moravian Wallachia (2 года назад)
If you worry about your own kind, that's all the more reason to go vegan. Do you honestly don't see how animal agriculture is harming animals AND humans?
Moravian Wallachia (2 года назад)
No, they don't give us milk. We take it from them... or, to be more precise, from their babies....and then we slit those babies' throats.... and than we do the same to the mother cows.... all for a liquid that our body absolutely does not need and that is in fact responsible for a whole host of diseases. How about stopping giving so much power to your taste buds and for a change let logic, compassion and a sense for justice influence your daily choices.

Let me tell you something, I work for one of the leading protein producers in the world. The government is present in our facility or we don't produce. On the other hand, if I had my way, I wouldn't purchase meat at a local retail grocer, ask questions about where your food comes from.  Your meat supply is chemically treated and or irradiated. I will ask you this...which is worse...food that is not prepared correctly or chemicals deemed safe by the FDA to be later recanted. I guess it really doesn't matter, unless you can afford to shop outside a major retailer. The rules and regulations that will safely protect you from bacteria will continue to dictate who you are....you are what your eat
IThinkWithMy Dick (4 года назад)
I don't give a fuck if meat-eaters get a load of chemicals from meat into them. Neither should you. There is no evidence that his is really harmful to the human meat-eater. The only thing you or anyone should care about are the animals YOU forced into the world, against their will.

RoScFan (5 лет назад)
1:42 -> there needs to be a different way of making meat; surely there are alternatives to our current system, there must be! simply providing electricity from solar panels and such to farms should be enough; the methane gas cows make can be used as biogas, burned for energy: sure it still makes CO2 but CO2 is a hundred times less efficient as a greenhouse gas than methane... so there are solutions;

Xenon93 (5 лет назад)
No because we're all animals. What's disrespectful is that you enslave and murder other animals for petty egoistic reasons. What you represent is the most extreme racist theories. *sigh*.. Ignorance.. 98% salt water. and less than 3% fresh water and only 0.03% available for drinking. In the coming decades that supply will be at serious scarcity as global temperatures rise and human population along with livestock increases. Argumentum ad hominem, for people who can't defend their flawed views.
Xenon93 (5 лет назад)
Funny that you should bring that up since today's factory farms are indistinguishable from Nazi concentration camps... And actually environmental pressures can force people what to eat which is exactly what it will do in the coming decades when fresh water supply becomes more and more scarce. The UN and EU are just trying to get people to get used to having plant based diets as norms and prevent further unhealthy cultural indoctrination.
Xenon93 (5 лет назад)

Don't forget that trees, one of the main absorbers of CO2, will be many times less effective at taking in CO2 when the temperature rises by 6°C. When this happens, the rate at which the Earth heats up, due to solar energy, will increase. It's a cycle, and once it get's hot enough, it's only going to get hotter. 'Tis known as "The Tipping point". We are at this tipping point, just so you know.

Can't believe how many people still believe they need to eat dead animals and their secretions. Have they ever heard of someone having a protein deficiency? You can get every nutrient from plant food, it was designed that way fool!!
mux020 (6 лет назад)
The green house gas released is not from all the grilling, roasting or frying, it is from the excessive beef production chain. If you have ever been near a farm you can't help but notice how much and how often the cows "release" their gas. They also consume plantation at an alarming rate. Again the problem is not people eating meant, it is a heavily beef based diet, and excessive beef production. More and more beef are being produced each year and companies just turn the excess into dog food.
Thorvaldir (6 лет назад)
The FDA doesn't miss catching meat recalls because they are corrupt, they miss them because they are so underfunded. I agree with Bill on a lot of things, but he can't seem to get over his "Big Pharma" and "Big Agriculture" conspiracy nonsense. If we gave the FDA more funding they would have the ability to catch more contaminated food, not to mention the insane amount of crap in the alternative health industry.

I'm assuming its because of the methane gas that we fart out due to our consumption of meat? Or simply because of the fact that we breed so many cows that emit methane gas from their farts? Either way, meat is a terribly inefficient source of energy... a terrible, delicious source.
Michael Pasternak (6 лет назад)
Try spreading the truth that meat is about 1/10 as efficient for energy as plants are. Cows are generally inefficient and emit methane, which is almost as much of a problem when it comes to the greenhouse effect and climate change. Either way, you are fucking the planet. Pigs are barely justifiable, otherwise meat is crazy at the levels we produce it at.

You talk about Sun cycles? There is a difference between that and global warming, sun cycles are calculated already, they happen in periods of 11 years and are to do with the placement of sunspots and if you were right we would be getting more solar flares and coronal mass ejections, which were not. Were talking about increased carbon dioxide and methane in the atmosphere which is causing the earths temperature to rise which leads to melting ice caps and climate change.
Anders Lindqvist (6 лет назад)
Then YOU, seem to know nada about the sun-cycles that causes that "solar energy! You´re a victim of governmental conspiracy to tax us for something taxes will do nothmg about. Go tax the sun instead. Why can´t you substain a real critizism against mine? Don´t have one? Tell me what´s wrong with my statement instead of just denying it! In the end that solar energy comes from the sun shining, no matter what you say and sun activity is increasing.
KidGamer951 (6 лет назад)
im not going to discuss something with someone who knows nothing about environmental science.
EtiamSiOmnesEgoNon (6 лет назад)
Wrong... polar caps are melted by the amount of solar energy trapped inside the atmosphere, and the amount of that energy is proportional to the presence of greenhouse gas (to simplify the concept: think of it as wearing wool rather than cotton: same amount of solar heat but 2 different results in body temperature...). The threat of global warming is not heating or cooling but rather alterations of climate patterns (a 5°C difference can change sea currents or destroy crops in most countries)
Anders Lindqvist (6 лет назад)
Fahrting Cows? Everywhere in our planet system, "polar-caps" are reduced due to melting. Responsible=The Sun. A normal fluctuation in solar activity, causing changes in climate. Mars has neither cows, cars(accually two!)or any artificial junk that can alter its "weather".And it´s presumed we´re headed towards another cycle of ice-age. "Cooling", will be the real threat, not emissions of gases. "Global warming" is a one sided debate as energy taxes robs us and any opposition is silenced. HUSH
KidGamer951 (6 лет назад)
Pound for pound, beef production generates greenhouse gases that contribute more than 13 times as much to global warming as do the gases emitted from producing chicken. For potatoes, the multiplier is 57. Beef consumption is rising rapidly, both as population increases and as people eat more meat. Producing the annual beef diet of the average American emits as much greenhouse gas as a car driven more than 1,800 miles.
KidGamer951 (6 лет назад)
The FAO report found that current production levels of meat contribute between 14 and 22 percent of the 36 billion tons of "CO2-equivalent" greenhouse gases the world produces every year. It turns out that producing half a pound of hamburger for someone's lunch a patty of meat the size of two decks of cards releases as much greenhouse gas into the atmosphere as driving a 3,000-pound car nearly 10 miles.
KidGamer951 (6 лет назад)
According to a 2006 report by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), our diets and, specifically, the meat in them cause more greenhouse gases carbon dioxide (CO2), methane, nitrous oxide, and the like to spew into the atmosphere than either transportation or industry.

Might be poisoning the well here, but Maher is an antivax nut as well as an antimeat nut. Other than that, I usually love what he has to say.

"Eating meat causes more global warming than all the cars and the planes." Like to see the actual figures for that before accepting it.

I didnt know O'Reilly was in peta.
Baby Bop (6 лет назад)
That's the whole point. I just watched a GOP debate in which Bachmann was thoroughly applauded by the easily impressed audience...for saying that there should be NO taxes. It's impossible to deal reasonably with this irresponsible pandering.

The auto bailout that Mitt Romney tried to take responsibility for, because it was very effective? He got elected saying he would do *more* of this kinda thing, and the left is pissed with him for not keeping those promises. If you think he's some kind of ultra-progressive, you're living in a fantasy world. The right is bought and paid for by *real* bad guys. Bankers that gamble with people's pensions and get bailed out of any trouble they land themselves in. Multi national corp's. And worse/
MrTrashcan1 (6 лет назад)
The first thing Obama did as president was to bail out the American auto workers. The 2nd thing he did was to eliminate the school voucher program in DC. These were paybacks to the unions for helping to get him elected. If that's not power, I don't know what is. You're an ignoramus and understand NOTHING about freedom or the true origins and history of the US other than the crap you get from the leftist media. Glad to know you're in the UK and that you won't be voting in our elections.
MrTrashcan1 (6 лет назад)
I made several points--I don't know what the "Really?" refers to. Not a single Republican voted for Obamacare. True, there are some who are not as conservative as we'd like or who compromise on principles for political reasons. We take what we can get.
Baby Bop (6 лет назад)
Really? There's only 14 Republicans in Congress that have not signed the taxpayer protection pledge; that's 14 who will CONSIDER raising taxes as a part of lowering debt.
Dm Gray (6 лет назад)
Names? Name any prominent Democrat that paints things as "black and white"? That;s all Republican there. The unions in the USA are laughable, they have no power to speak of, go look up what is spent on govt lobbyists and who makes significant contributions. Here in the UK our unions have been gutted over my entire life, but we still have some powers at least. Union action is one of the most democratic expressions in the world, and it's pretty much the basis of fucking "republicanism"... le sigh
MrTrashcan1 (6 лет назад)
No, there are plenty of reputable scholars who dispute this. The entire notion that it has to be "fixed" is left wing propaganda. Also there is plenty of money in left wing politics, including the massive influence of the unions who basically own the Democrats and Obama. To think we base our allies only on their economic system only is retarded. We have to choose those who have values as similar to us. It's nuanced--not black & white as the left always tries to paint the right.
Dm Gray (6 лет назад)
So many people here argue that climate change is beyond our control You disagree with pretty much every serious scholar studying this phenomena Anybody that believes America is leftist is a genuine retard. You don't have a liberal or leftwing bias in the US, you never did. Even though MOST of your allies are socialist nations, socialism is still the bogeyman in the night. Deregulation, corporate empowerment, money in politics and acceptance of disproven rightwing/libertarian dogma is the problem
Dm Gray (6 лет назад)
Yeah, the left is the problem. Nothing to do with the right wing blocking any attempt to fix the problem. Yeah, some of the "clean" energy solutions don't work, but when there is no open and sensible discourse, things wont improve. That shit is all on the right wing, who deny human activity effects climate change, refuse to compromise even to achieve common goals and are being lead by a bunch of extremist nutters (in the US)

Probably from some reliable source like Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, or the Heartland Institute.
MrTrashcan1 (6 лет назад)
What bothers me is the arrogance of the left, thinking that they know how to control nature. There are and have been people who've come up with practical alternative power sources. However the leftists are fixated on solar and wind power, the two LEAST practical and most expensive alternatives. Also they never seem to have an answer for how to supply all the electricity needed to charge electric cars. Oh, that's right--solar and wind.
cueballB (6 лет назад)
That is not what i ment. The rock we life on will be arount 'till the sun goes out, or a huge asteroid hits. We should only be concerned wether or not it remains habitable 'till then. The longer it can remain as such, the better for mankind. Much like a dying man, we can sustain the planet longer. You can't 'save' it, you just prolongue it's ability to sustain life.
Brocialist Party of America (6 лет назад)
All I'm saying is that no matter how many electric cars you drive, plastic you recycle, or solar panels you use, you won't save the planet from nature.
