Put on a new frontal position sensor it did good for a while adjusted it to the eye watch your video and it did say something about if you wants had mice that got into your motor which idea did they made a nest into the heater blower motor cleaned it out and they made a nest in the air filter clean down that out didn't have a problem until the throttle position sensor was put on now when I come 2A slow or not hitting my gas or riding without hitting my gas my car is cutting off do you have any thing that might can help me
After getting an 'engine check' light on the dash of my 2015 eco-diesel (traced to a mass air flow sensor issue) I was able to clear the light simply by changing the air filter. I found a mouse nest build-up on the intake side of the filter and after vacumming the filter unit completely and changing the filter, the light cleared itself after about 5 miles of driving. Try this 1st - it costs little to nothing and should be done anyway.
Have 89 biuck reatta. Been sitting for 15 years. Have replaced lots of stuff. Not maf sensor yet tho. It idles bad an dies. Runs better when cold. When I leave work it hard to start cause it hotter out. An dies faster an acts up more. So get new maf I guess....
I cleaned the mass air flow sensor on my 2010 elantra (62,000 kms) The engine still idles rough , but drives ok when off idle. It seems to be idling rich. according to the sparkplugs, but lean when driving ( No tail pipe carbon residue) When I unplug the MAF sensor it continues running and idling rough. I have not checked for a vacuum leak yet that could cause a rich fuel trim at idle. What do you think?
Hard to take someone seriously, or to buy a book (or anything)on advice from him when he doesn't have enough sense to put on his seat belt or to NOT make a video while driving down what looks like a busy road.
I had a k&n filter in my clk 350 for less than 100 miles and it destroyed my MAF sensor causing my car to stall and sound terrible, i will never use there product again. And no i didnt "over oil it" i just bought it so there was no need to oil it. Should i clean it and disconnect my battery to see if CEL never comes back on? Or should i buy a new one for 80 bucks? Btw i have a Mercedes clk350. Please help
This is my problem engine light came back on after I changed my 2 back 02 sensors, code came on for mass airflow sensor. So I had my dad spray it with the cleaner made for mafs that but not sure he knew what he was doing, light for engine still stayed on. Than I got a new mfas and changed. But engine light stayed on.
Soo saw video that said to turn on engine and unplug the plug on the mass airflow sensor and if the car still ran it is bad. It still ran on the new one. So I put my old one back on and did the same thing when I unpluged it, it still ran. Someone said if you unplug it and it still ran that means the mass airflow sensor is bad.
Is that true?
Wow! All these comments really show how many "freedom" loving people think they should be able to control what someone else does. Thanks for maf info. Do what you want brother! Enjoy true liberty while it lasts!
Would u check out this vid? Car runs like this randomly. When running fine, if I unplug MAF car dies. When car is running like crap, when I unplug MAF car idle smooths out and all is well. https://youtu.be/0xTUvFCDp3M
if I unplug the Fuel injection air flow sensor, while the engine is running, and nothing at all happens, the engine still is running, what is going on ? A 2001 toyota camry 4 cyl auto trans ! 2.2 ltr engine
I have a BMW E46 and I'm having an issue with low idle , I have no vacuum leaks and almost I have changed everything !

Please let Me know what's going on , I have no check engine but low idle on D or R ! it's not a engine on trans mount because I changed them and the idle on D or R is 500 or close to it
I bought a new mass airflow sensor about 1 1/2 years ago. 2000 Mercedes S500 Base 8 cyl. 5.0. This is my sons car.
Recently, the car has been sitting for about 6 weeks while the mechanic fixed an air leak in the air bag suspension. Could this be why I am getting a code for the mass airflow sensor? Sitting for 6 weeks?
I took the sensor off and it looks just like I put it on yesterday. There are no shorts in the wire harness and the wires are in good shape. Why am I getting this code if everything seems to be OK?
Awesome video. Thanks so much.
so ,if I turn on my truck and unplug the electric harness from the MAF and the engine keeps running it's BAD? I tried that before on my chevy truck I unplugged the electric harness and the engines doesn't stop
well cleaning it doesn't always work u might need to change it because I had a bad mass air flow sensor problem and I couldn't tell if it was bad because while my astro van is running and I unplugged my mass air flow sensor my van kept running the same there was no change in the motor but my light was on so I cleaned it and there still was no change so I ordered a mass air flow sensor of eBay for 30$ bucks and installed it and when I unplugged my new mass air flow sensor my an shut right off that's how I new it was the mass air flow sensor
Working on a 91ranger. Has had engine swap with a 2.3
95 engine. Started running ruff and replaced all eight plugs and wires and coils. Runs better and will replace, not clean MAF
Sensor. I believe vachume may be a problem as, no
Catalytic and short loud pipes have been put on.
Any suggestions would be a God send.
What if your unplug it and it runs better and then when you plug it back in, it dies? Also, does anyone know if a bad battery or a voltage issue would cause erratic idling (low, stall, high). Does something different everytime I start it.
I just did this with my pontiac grand prix and it's running, somewhat decent. where just 10 minutes ago it wouldn't start and now is running! thanks so much for the video! this has been driving us insane
Courtney Bartlett was the car cranking but not turning over? I have the same problem now! Car has to be in a very warm climate for a few days then it will crank over and run fine, but not when its cold. 2008 pontiac grand prix base
I have a 93 ford ranger and I noticed the fuel pump was going bad, then one day it starting bucking real nad and died so i replaced the fuel pump, its nice and quiet now but still the same problem, so i replaced the fuel filter and air filter, still the same, then I noticed if I unplug the MAS it runs normal, but will die sometimes at idle but runs perfect ortherwise, so Im going to check for vaccum leaks and clean the idle passage ways in the flap on the throttle body and if that doesnt fix it, I'm fairly certain the MAS is whacked. is this correct?
here is what her car does.. you start it and at first it runs smooth but after about 30-60 second when it starts to idol down it idols rough. if you give it a lil gas itll clear up for a sec then back to running rough. if sitting there idoling it runs rough, clears up for about 3 seconds the runs rough again and its constantly doing that.. anyone has any ideas??
my god daughter has a 2008 Nissan Altima and when I unplug her MAFS her car stalls immediately. Why is this?? her car just started sputtin and sputterin and cant figure out why? took it to O'Reillys, they ran a diagnosis and came up the the Crankshaft Sensor. I changed that and it seem to have cleared up a good bit but still not right.. Do i need to have the codes cleared or idol relearn??
i think my maf went bad due to water. ive been hoodless all summer in michigan. i think it ruined it. im replacing it tommorow. hopefully its my probblem. unplugged car runs but like shit. plug it in while running it shuts off.
Hello. I have a 98 Chevy Silverado 5.7 liter (132000 miles). It normally drives good for the first mile or two down the road, then it just dogs down and has no power. I have to pull over and turn the truck off for maybe 5 or 10 seconds then restart it. it will run horrible for a few seconds after restart while driving again down the road, then it works it way back out of it. I've hung part after part trying to fix the issue with no luck. Changed both upstream o2 sensors (dual exhaust), fuel pump, fuel filter, and distributor. Changing the distributor did help with power increase when truck is running good before it takes a crap, but didn't stop it from falling on its face. Could this be a problem with the mass air flow sensor? I wasn't sure if a dirty or bad mass air flow sensor would case it to run good one minute then fail the next, yet return to a normal running engine after a restart. Get tired of hanging parts and paying out money for things I don't need and not helping the issue, less the distributor, I believe it was bad do to the power increase I gained after installing it. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I have nissan sunny 2005 japan, when i drive car initial performance is too poor and spark plugs are new, filter is new, everything is new.still performance is not good,i search for the maf cleaner.but i ddnt found it in market.can i use ac delco carburetor cleaner?? Please advice.thanks
So if I start my 2003 ford windstar van, unplug the MAF, and it does NOT shut off......i need to clean or replace the MAF? I can't tell if it runs better since it only runs crappy and stalls when I am driving it and stop at a light or stop sign the engine will surge and stall if I do not give it a little gas. I can tell when i plug the MAF back in with it running the engine slows down a bit. It is giving me codes p1336, p0171 and p0174
I have a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS 2.4 with exactly 160700 miles on it.
My problem is this:
I cleaned the throttle body, PCV valve, and MAF sensor because I was told it was dirty, which it was but not badly.
I unplugged the MAF and removed the air intake and cleaned that out than I cleaned the inside of the throlle body out with a rag and TB spray. Ever since doing this my car STALLS out when trying to start up. The car turns over but the engine just dies/stalls out. In order to get it to run and not stall out I have to push the gas pedal while im starting it and rev it for about a minute to stay on. Even while it doesn't stall out the RPM stays at 500 while trying to warm up while it use to be at 1200rpm untill it's warmed up and back to 500 for normal idle...What the heck did I do or could have happend?
Today I did it all again but this time disconnected the battery before hand and also cleaned out the IAC vavle or motor. The car turned and fired properly and I thought I fixed the problem as it idled at 1200 while warming and then let it sit and drove about miles to relearn normal Idle. Got to worked parkes the car and it idled in park normally like it use to.....5 hours later go to buy lunch and stalled out on start up and is a little harder to keep it running now.. What could be the problem or what did I do????? Anybody who can help I would appreciate it as I'm not able to afford dealership repairs they want 120 just to scan it. I really don't want to lose this car I've had it for 5 years and has never gave me a problem.
Hello Mr Harrison! I have a 1997 ford ranger 2.3. Try to check the maf, I got the 12 volt tested, its good, both grounds are good. When I try to check the voltage the sensor is sending out, the voltage goes up between 5 and 6 volts and the engine dies. Any suggestions?
