I visited the Cinque Terre in late May and it was lovely; my favorite place I visited in Italy. I hiked from Monterroso Al Mare to Vernazza just before sunset. I’m told this is the most difficult hike. The beginning was a bit difficult, but the view was spectacular and I had the trail almost totally to myself. I watched the sunset at Vernazza’s Harbor and bought wine and truffles for next to nothing. I was so pleasantly surprised by Manarola, but I didn’t get to two of the towns, so I have to go back. I loved it. ❤️

Love Rick. But he's gotten a little "paunchy" around the middle. You would think, what with all the walking he does, he wouldn't have that. Oh well, love him anyway.

Rick Steves Thank you so so much for imparting your knowledge and experience of traveling for the novice. It is a delight to see & hear (and almost taste & smell & feel) in your brilliant deliver & articulation of travel advice for those who are super keen to get off the beaten tracks & find hidden treasures of the likes of alley ways etc.. You have my heart & mind all a flutter as iam planning a solo trip of a life time for my 50th birthday to Italy (Trieste is top of the list to visit with my father's sister & her family after 11 years of his passing... too much time has been wasted but this year 2018 is the right time) also Spain France possibly Germany (my mother's heritage) and India (however there is something completely not so travel related that i will embark on there).. I will purchase your informative books & study your insights (like its my new job) to ensure I am prepared for all manner of adventures. Can't thank you enough for all you are sharing from history, culture, food, accommodation, getting from place to place and so much more & how to take advantage of thinking outside the usual traveler's paths.. Thoroughly enjoy watching reading & listening to all your travel trips, hacks, where to, how to, what to, do see & be as a visitor in amazing parts of this great earth.. So grateful for all your assistance even though you probably wouldn't know how much you are helping make a life plan come to fruition.. Thanks again.. 😁😁

Hi I love your channel. I watched all of your movies. It's one of a kind that no one has it, but it stands out the crowd. The way you speak is friendly and nice. Hope you and your family have a great health to produce more videos in the coming days.

Why americans are so interested to judge and to know my country ? We have nothing in common with american habits and culture ! I wonder why this obsession with Italy , we dont have the same interest for USA.

It's like a gorgeous Mediterranean woman and a goofy looking, awkward Anglo-Saxon man. Of course the man is going to be interested in the woman but not vice versa.

I have always wanted to visit Italy. Last September I fulfilled that dream. Eight days, 4 in Rome and 4 in Florence, with day trips into small towns in Tuscany. I LOVED every single moment of that trip. Even though I broke my foot coming down some cobblestone steps in San Gimignano, 1/2 way through the trip, I LOVED every moment. Italy is a beautiful country and from my experience the Italian people are warm and friendly. I want to return to your country again someday, if I am able.

My wife and I just got back from Italy two days ago. It was my first time in Europe, and I always dreamed of going to Italy. I must say it did not disappoint. I LOVED it, absolutely loved it. Our itinerary was 3 nights in the Cinque Terre, 2 nights in an agrotourismo in Tuscany, and 3 nights in Rome. They were all beautiful places, and I will treasure every moment we spent there, but my favorite was Rome. We basically had the whole city to ourselves. We hardly waited in line to see the major sites. In fact, it took all of 5 min when we got in line to the Coliseum to enter the site. So if you are looking to plan a trip to Italy, go in the mid Spring. My favorite was St Peters Square and the Basilica. It was just beautiful. We also rented a car while in Tuscany, and we were there for Italy independence holiday. There were numerous festivals going on in those Tuscan hill towns, and one was a wine festival in San Quirico d'Orcia, so obviously, we partook in the festival. Please follow Rick's recommendations if this is your first trip to Italy or your 100th trip to Italy. The Italian people are good and hospitable people and want you to come and have a good time to eat, learn their history, which they are very proud of, drink the wine, and of course relax and enjoy their beautiful country.  Ciao!!

Actually, Italy center of Risorgimento is Turin, where the country was born. Not Milan.

I don't really think you will read this, but if you do, can I travel easily with my pet parrot once I have my paperwork in order. Thanks. If anyone knows, please respond.
Christina Niisato (1 год назад)
I don't think it's a good idea to travel with your pet parrot. Some people are wary of birds' noise and are allergic. Your bird might have a high chance of flying away or being stolen. Also, unless you live in the EU already, a lot of countries like the US have strict restrictions about the coming and going of birds - lots of paperwork. I know because I have done it with my bird.

A small tip: try to go all the way South, to Messina, Taranto, Vieste, Alberobello, Bari, Brindisi.

Rick is a Phil Lesh look-alike, it's amazing. Especially when he was younger, with the reddish hair and beard.
