I am proud to stand with our nurses in their fight for a fair contract that treats them with respect and dignity. No hospital, not here in Vermont or anywhere in the country, can provide the quality and compassionate care its patients deserve unless it has a strong nursing workforce. If hardworking nurses can’t earn enough to raise a family in Vermont, we will continue to lose them to other states that pay better. At the end of the day, this struggle is about priorities. It’s about prioritizing patient care over profits. // (Caption Clarification: Jonathan Glaude is an RN on the Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery unit.)
For one, I do a shit job when I know I'm not getting paid nearly enough for the work I'm doing. I recently started a new job and get paid over 12% more now. Since that pay bump I work more and harder.
I don't want some person who isn't getting enough to care about their job (nursing) to be responsible for me because they may not give a shit either if being underpayed.
Bernie it sure is proftable to be a Socialist like you! ... You have used public life to enrich your self, you hypocrite!! ... The US Government should send men with weapons to your house(s) to confiscate them and also take all of your personal wealth in order for you to understand what SOCIALISM really means! ... I am surprised you're not in Nicaragua defending the Sandinistas like you did in back in the eighties. You asshole! .... You are either utterly oblivious to the meaning and practice of Socialism and all of the harm it's done to humanity OR you are a scum who just likes to promise people FREE (socialist) everything. WHO is going to pay for all the free ponies you are promising? You???!!!! ... OR are you going to steal people's private property and wealth to distribute to other like the SANDINISTAS did to my family and the rest of the Nicaraguan citizens? ...
But okay I’m admittedly not a socialist. Might like libertarian ideas better but unfortunately it has Alex Jones with a big footprint in social media representing, barf. barf. I like Bernie fighting the abuse that capitalism brings with it. A governments job is checks & balances. I’m an investor who likes profit but am not investing for workers to be taken advantage of...
Feel the Bern. Okay that’s a plus 1 for Bernie BUT don’t fall for his socialist societal ideas. But cudos to Bernie standing up for the nursing staff.
A vote for Bernie for president should he run again though is a vote for you or yours one day that becomes homeless & on the street when the wealth of all others has been spent. Plus Bernie is a communist at heart. During the time Russia was a strict communist country & where did Bernie honeymoon? Which brings me to Comey - did anyone know Comey originally registered as a communist?
Bernie stands with money donated by the medical industry so do not trust Bernie and look to see if the Hospitals have donated to Bernie to of held your pay increase for years, Look up Bernies donation for election and see who he really represents=Big money donations and will con you
What the fuck is wrong with doctors and CEOs of hospital? They just violated the Hippocratic Oath in taking care of patients before profits, motherfathers!! Now they are slow-killing patients under the order of Assholic Oligarchy cults interested in profits, fucking ridiculous!
The control of society by controlling the monetary fraud that , by way of theft , asserts undue influence over the allocation of resources of society.
Healthcare is just a normal , expected aspect of a legitimate society.
Corporations make 'profits' by exploiting the system of society and subverting the very foundation of democracy itself.
Is this a society ? ..or a feed lot for debt slaves ?
I agree with one of the comments here. New party now, Bernie. The superdelegate reform proposal will not pass with the two thirds support needed to be adopted in August at the final DNC meeting. The superdelegates will not vote against their own self-interest. Come on. It's time to wake up.
Brent Showers The Right wouldn't fragment. I never see or hear rightwingers calling for a new party. Even Rand Paul, who just sucked Drumpf's dick after Drumpf sucked Putin's, runs Republican, not Libertarian. Once again, Drumpf is a TRAITOR, guilty of TREASON, but they're still protecting him. Guys like Flake, and even rabid conservatives like Gowdy, are retiring rather than speak out against Drumpf and lose their party nominations in a primary... making way for Drumpf supporters. The Republicans put party over country. And, the rank and file are more on the left side of the bell curve for intelligence, and, as I said, ruled by their amygdalas, and therefore very susceptible to fear and hate mongering. As for the left embracing the comprehensive reforms you discuss, that's a long way off. There's only a handful of Progressives in office, whether it be Federal, State, County, or even Municipal. When we probably won't take the Senate, there's zero point in talking about Constitutional Amendments on voting. The priority, now, is getting as many Progressives the Democratic nomination as possible. In November, the priority will be getting Democrats, any Democrats, into the House and Senate.
Sun Wukung the only way we can talk about dividing the left into different segments like neoliberals, liberals, social democrats, democratic socialists, syndicalists, and Green Party is if we ultimately win in 2018 and 2020 as progressive democrats begin comprehensive election reform and add a new amendment to the constitution for rank choice voting, and open debates. I do think a parliamentary style system may help our nation greatly it would force coalition building between factions for a more moderate and diverse range of opinions. Of course if the left fragments to different coalitions in that type of system I would suspect the right would as well which would make it harder for a lunatic like trump to take power without being reasonable for popular support of the factions. Of course I don’t suspect this model to happen right now but for a future model for our nation for sure. It’s not a radical idea to have more political parties in the system it may provide stronger agendas and plans for ruling parties that can take alittle from each instead of playing to strict party lines
D LG It's also not complicated that it takes a united Left to beat a united Right. Currently, about half of the country votes Republican, and the other half votes Democrat. If you divide the Democratic vote between the Democrats and some new party or parties, the Republicans are guaranteed wins. In 2000 Nader was a spoiler with just 2.74% of the popular vote. Florida had the issues of voter suppression, and the butterfly ballots and hanging chads. But, if Nader had stayed out of swing states, as he had promised, Bush would still have lost Florida. 537 votes made the difference between the first environmental president and the one that got us into the worst recession since the Great Depression and the second worst president of my lifetime. In 2004, when Nader, the self-important prick, ran again, he got .38% of the popular vote. People learned their lesson.
Sun Wukung that is something we can agree. I think honestly the best people in line to do this is personally I think would be bernie sanders and a progressive that has sway with moderate centrist wing of the party that may be holdouts as vp. Honestly I do think it should be a woman. If I believed in my heart of hearts Hillary was a progressive deep down and her reputation wasn’t tarnished at this point I wouldn’t mind her running as vp. But what happened in 2016 I think ended that her reputation I don’t think is salvageable for the progressive wing to be ok with that. That said it would help if we had perceived moderate centrists in the party that were secretly progressive that were sly about it getting certain segments of the population more progressive over time that need a hand holding theirs to get to these policies bernie has been pushing. Fox’s propaganda doesn’t work for everyone but for huge segments of the population it is and it will take very intelligent elements in the progressive party to play the moderate centrist good cop to the progressive bad cop kinda thing. For some moving the Overton window from the far right in America to center left it won’t be easy but it has to happen.
Brent Showers That part was directed at D LG, who is advocating for more Left leaning political parties. But, the mistake you're making is talking as if you can somehow get 100% of Left leaning voters to participate. Only 55.7% of the country voted in 2016, which is about average. 40-50% of the country just don't vote. The point I'm making, and on which I think we agree is that we have get the Left leaning people that do vote to vote as a solid block, and to vote for a Progressive candidate. And, to do that, a Progressive has to win the Democratic primary.
Frederik Holfeld It's because Republicans are stupid, Democrats that didn't vote for Bernie in the primary are stupid... and Trump is president because people that didn't vote for Clinton in the general election are stupid. I fucking hate Clinton... but, I was smart enough to vote for her.
