I call my girlfriend babe all the time it's a term of endearment if you love the person it's short for baby it's not recommended to call somebody you don't know babe but it also could mean that she looks nice if you were talking about with a friend and he asked you how did your date go last night you could respond with it went pretty good she was a total babe that would Translate to it went pretty good she was really attractive

We don't say "by the skin of our teeth" that much anymore, but some people still say it. Usually we say "just barely". Let's say for instance your car is low on gas and you are trying to make it to the next gas station and you car just barely made it, meaning that it sputtered right as you pulled up into the gas station. Тоже желал побеседовать о древнем слове "jalope". В 40-80ы люд потребляли этот термин побеседовать о машине в нехорошем состояние и низком качеством.

If your significant other calls you babe its like a sweet thing though like that is nice
Bethany Wallace (6 дней назад)
Babe can also be used as a pronoun (I think). You can call your friends babe and it’s not weird or uncomfortable. Pleading the fifth can also be used as messing around. Like if your friend as you a question and you don’t wanna answer you can say I plead the fifth and everyone will laugh and change the subject

Bail also means to help.. Dude I got you, I'll bail you out. Tight has many meanings IE: Beautiful (Hot) ... Dude that babe is TIGHT Good... Dude those are some TIGHT wheels bro. Broke... Man I'm real TIGHT on funds (money), I'm just going to hang out at home. Plead the fifth is actually a legal term not slang.. you are instructed by your lawyer or a Judge to "Plead The Fifth"
Sheila Miller (6 дней назад)
Idk what kinda dudes you run into that just randomly call you babe and your not in a relationship with them but the definition is 100% wrong and it is not disrespectful it's a term of endearment when a couple has been together a very long time like when one is called BAE (before anyone else).
Albert Mo (6 дней назад)
Hi Maria, Your "shoulder" in "Give Me a Cold Shoulder" (3:24) sounds wild. It should be like "show"... Thanks, Albert

"Tight" (usually when referring to an object, like a car or a house) can also be interchangeable with "sweet" (as per your definition). Though, it's a word more popular among America's youth or within certain sub-cultures of America. That's a sweet car, or that car is tight!

a dollar is a buck because back in the old frontier days people paid using deer skins or bucks, a buck is a male deer hence buckskins, tight can also refer to a close friendship: we are tight, and wheels kind of indicates a sporty car or just any car too, bail is also payment for getting out of jail before trial,

Should should hear some surfer slang. I grew up in it surf culture in San Diego, CA in the 60's. About 90% of American slang comes from this time. I can remember talking with my friends for like 20 minutes and realized my girlfriend had no clue what we were talking about! It was an amazing time when surfing was king! San Diego is the land of the 4 seasons. 1st season we have summer, 2nd season something close to summer, 3rd the season is closer to summer, and 4th Hey its summer again! Yet if you want snow you can drive a few hours to go skiing. You want the desert? Again a few more hours and you're in the desert! Love your videos!

"Tight" also indications close friendship. "She and I are tight" means "she and I are very close friends." Unrelated to the competition usage you listed. "Tight" also can mean "drunk", but not as common as in the past. For example, "Joe got tight last night." "Sweet" as something nice implies that the recipient has a _positive_ _emotional_ _reaction,_ usually affection, from the nice thing, person or act.
ADKforever (13 дней назад)
This video is based on a false pretense. Most of these slang words and expressions are NOT AMERICAN SLANG expressions or words. They are used in other English-speaking countries, too. The only American slang terms/expressions you listed are these: buck couch potato plead the fifth screw up for real to trash to wrap up to get busted And with the overwhelming influence of American media throughout the world, even these Americanisms are increasingly widely understood by non-American English speakers.

"Just barely" is the meaning of "by the skin of your teeth", but the example you gave is incorrect. You wouldn't say: "I hurt myself- but just by the skin of my teeth". Instead you would say: "I hurt myself a little bit" or "I hurt myself slightly". A better example is: "that falling piano missed hitting me by the skin of my teeth!"

Sorry I had to bail out last night, some strange creep was trying to get 20 bucks off of me, call me babe so I naturally thought I would wrap it up with a tight turn, which was and epic fails, because it was a dead end. I quickly called the popo and the stalker got busted and screwed up big time. When I got home I turned into a couch potato then crashed. Can't believe I got out of there by the skin of my teeth. I would be happy to hang out tomorrow. It was a sweet experience. Didn't use all, but oh well😁
Haley Maksin (4 дня назад)
Popo sounds more fun to say, especially with small kids.
Bethany Wallace (4 дня назад)
That makes sense if you don’t use the fuzz for the police. Done here in the south we just say “Oh look! It’s the Fuzz!!””

You would say the totaled his car if he had an accident, not trashed. To say he trashed it would mean that he purposely destroyed it. He trashed his car with a baseball bat.
jen d (13 дней назад)
By the skin of my teeth means just barely escaping something and it's from the King James Bible, Job 19:20. "I got away from that bear by the skin of my teeth.

I'm pretty sure most of these "slang" words are English slang in general, as an aussie I say these pretty much all the time "except the plead the fifth"
Jonathan DeVries (14 дней назад)
Girl you seriously need to update your slang, lol. They are a bit "stale".

“if you refer to someone as babe, it means you think they are hot or attractive” WHAAT? English is my first language, and that is not what it means😂
izzlewizzle (15 дней назад)
i live in the uk and we use the majority of these words lol
Han Fuehrious (15 дней назад)
Hang out and chill are the same thing. Babe could be used a lot more on people you know (not with a dating status in mind) to call them something nice or random. Jacked up is the same as screwed up. Hella means way good. Bomb means awesome or no bueno, but is an older one (oh, thats bomb! Or oh, he bombed the test). Tanked means going ham (both mean way crazy good). Tanked also means failed if you didnt know that before. Mmm...yeah done with this late book.

Bail-leaving abruptly By the skin of my teeth - barely Crash - fall asleep abruptly Give sb the cold shoulder Plead the fifth - don’t tell anything that could be told against you Sweet - nice Wheels - car 🚗 Bust - Police busts burglars To have a blast - enjoy doing sth
Keen (15 дней назад)
While "by the skin of my teeth" does mean "just barely" you wouldn't use it like that. Its more like "I missed hitting that care by the skin of my teeth" or "I survived that fall by the skin of my teeth." More like a "near miss" situation.
Burt Hollabaugh (4 дня назад)
Keen : There is no skin on your teeth a smilar to the phase: "Rarer then hen's teeth". Hens do not have teeth.

why you are so pretty?
