Damn your pride! It proves you are thinking only of yourself.
Is this before you had your baby girl maybe?
What if 2 bullies took you little girls candy? Or worse.
You gonna walk away?
That's not preserving your pride, it's swallowing it.
They just learned they can take your candy EVERYday!
The sooner you challenge the bully the better, because the longer you put it off the less convinced the bully is that you'll see it through once you finally decide to act.
A knee to the groin might get you an ass whippin' but it would also get you respect...from the bullies as well as the onlookers, who would instead of egging the bullies on, would likely turn on them.
The lion can kill the badger all day everyday, but killing the badger is not an economically sound trade for losing an eye to the badger.
If everything is pre planned, this may be true, but if there IS a fight between the Reps and the Dems, and I believe there is, because power is a power-full aphrodisiac, and one man addicted wants to have it over the other, then at the very least, conservatives will install conservatives to the supreme court, and if there's even the slightest chance that is not preplanned, it's worth your vote.
So your answer to being screwed over by the gubmint is to just crawl into a corner and quit? That's an excuse to be lazy and not bother to learn about the issues. Learn about the issues, investigate the options and VOTE! If you are a fan of Molyneux, vote against incumbents, vote for 3rd parties, and vote against raising taxes to limit the gubmint's power. When you opt-out of voting, representatives will still be chosen, but they will be chosen by dumb gullible people who vote for whoever has the nicest hair.
It's not about begging for a small bit of stolen earnings. It's about delaying the the juggernaut by voting no on everything, except that which reduces government, so you have more time to enlighten sleeping drugged sheep. Please do not insult my basic character by assuming my motives. You, Stefan, of all the people I know, should know better than that.
it matters not WHO you vote for, only THAT you vote. they divvy out the numbers as they see fit. technically, voting is treason because an occupying force is offering you candidates that are part of that occupying force. hence, you have aligned yourself with.. the bad guys. treason!
If you don't vote, the worse evil wins and our decline occurs more quickly. Being an impediment to the onslaught of the left is better than letting them achieve whatever they want.
This is what ancaps can't understand. They conflate *A* injustice with all kinds of injustice, irrespective of the degree of severity. You think shit's bad now? Just wait, it can always get a whole hell of a lot worse. The solution isn't to start all over and raze to the bare earth centuries of law and precedent protecting our freedoms, just because of some violations of it. You don't get rid of a paper cut by severing your arm. You be patient and heal it. Voting is the laborious process by which you heal the government, rather than destroying it and abruptly experiencing a case of buyer's remorse of cataclysmic proportions.
2008 Stefan: Who have we got? John McCain?! Oh well, we were never going to win anyway. Voting's a waste of time!
2016 Stefan: lol the Democrats are going to run with Hillary Clinton? We might actually stand a chance! I got to make 10 propaganda videos a week for the entire year to encourage people to vote Donald Trump.
I love you
And this appeal is universal enough, not only for american people.. You remain free as long as you decide about yourself without depending on judgement and approval of those in so called power
and yet mr Molyneux then went on to speak, in the last year with just as much passion or even more, about how people MUST vote.. for Mr Trump. I don't know what has happened here. Is he still an anarchist, or not?
I voted in the last election, and that was my last election I'm voting in. Political Parties are just their to get us to fight among ourselves, while they set back and watch us destroy each other, instead of coming together as Americans.
What happened to this Stefan? What happened to the principled man who worked to make people understand that we are slaves in a slavery system, and that it matters NOT which colour shirt the master wears? So sad.
A leader rose up that he felt could in fact bring the desired change that is needed to root out the corruption in Washington. Simple as that, little snowflake. He still sees the forest through the trees, where you don't.
Brexit happened though.
Obamacare happened because of Obama, not McCain.
It's absolutely fair to say that there is very little difference between most if not all politicians, but this idea that everything in politics happened as a form of perfect determinism is honestly stupid. I think Gore would have made similar decisions to Bush if not the same. Same thing with Kerry. I don't think we were going to pass MediCain or Mitticare if they had won.
Plus, I've never understood anarchists' position. No rulers? How do you justify living in a city or even a town? As soon as there is a mayor, or a sheriff, or a council, there is a ruler. Does this only apply to the Federal Government and not State? How does that work? Tennessee is supposed to be as much of a country as France. So no governors?
The participation in government is participation in organized society. Anarcho-capitalism can do great things, but political cohesion is necessary for intricate systems. Not that it causes the intricacy. Political cohesion is a roadblock before intricacy can be attained just like how a free market reaches a critical mass when bartering is replace by the more sophisticated money.
We gain the invisible benefit of living in an intricate society. Now, maybe you do, but I do not want to live in eastern Alaska or northern Canada in the middle of nowhere.
This is the Stef that screamed through my hardened-steel, state-loving brain, "TAXATION IS THEFT!!!". Man, that broke it loose for me. That, coupled with the story of your enslavement, the facts about spanking, and the curtain was drawn back for good. I'm a changed man because of a lot of what he was able to get across to me (that many others were not able to). Those were good times!
aus had a record number of dicks drawn on there vote papers this year people need to grow even further than that from dicks to no's from no's to demand's from demands to progress etc lol or somethings gonna be ripped out from under
A little over 8 years after you uploaded this video I subscribed. Sometime this month in fact. I don't always share your opinions, but I always admire the open floor for discourse and other ideas. After the video finished I found myself almost disturbed at how much it resonates with me. It would be fascinating to revisit in 2016 or '17 the views that you held when you made this video in 2008 and see how you may have or may not have changed during these 8 years.
I know Stefan has changed his opinion, but I can't see how this still isn't a good opinion without valid arguments. In my state, I have ZERO chance of my vote changing the election (2016). I can't see how Stef's current view is anything but a leap of faith that Trump won't destroy us.
I could not agree more! However, I feel that not participating is only the first step. Those in power must no longer have that power...We The People must wage war on our government...now is the time to take back that power and put it back in the hands of the people, take back that which has been taken from Us...our county, our rights...our dignity! Let the REVOLUTION begin!!!
If representative democracy and direct democracy are flawed, what choice do we have? I'm trying to write a paper for English class about why you shouldn't vote, and from what I gathered about how representative democracy works, I have: parties in a representative democracy may not reflect the majorities' ideas, minorities don't have a loud enough voice (where are my Independent Party homies at? :-3), and the process of impeachment is lengthy if a representative wasn't representing the people's interests. This emotional mumbo-jumbo is appealing to the pathos, but it isn't effective enough to convince my audience to not vote in a persuasive essay.
Thank you!! I am so happy I am not the only one in this county who feels this way! Breeding hate and segregation while lining their pockets...and leave you with next to nothing. Fuck politics. Help and educate yourself.
I haven't seen that yet. I only recently came across this guy looking for others who felt the same as I did about voting, and I agree with so much he says in this one particular video. I subsequently checked out his channel however, and I could only find a couple that i even cared to watch, and I really didn't agree with everything he says in those quite as much. The fact that hes a self appointed "intellectual" (whatever the fuck that means, sounds arrogant and narcissistic to me) is strange. Also his channel is nothing but politics...I think he just likes the sound of his own voice. I do like this video though:)
I KNOW ONE THING.....I AM GOING TO VOTE. ....AND I'LL VOTE FOR DONALD TRUMP. ....YOU ARE THE LOSER. DO YOU FEEL BETTER NOW THAT YOU HAVE SCREAMED AT THE CAMERA....TRYING TO TALK PEOPLE OUT OF VOTING FOR TRUMP? YOU ARE A MISGUIDED FOOL. YOU MIGHT TRY BEGGING, SINCE YOU ARE WITHOUT ANYTHING, INCLUDING A AUDIENCE THAT CARES WHAT YOU THINKI.
+Robert Barney Yes, power corrupts. Member berry
"Change we can believe in.. Yes we can" ... Well what changed?
Dems made the same mistake in libya as Bush did in Iraq. Now all these immigrants are pouring into EU+US and our QOL is going down.
So much so, that we are being told to leave our homes to make way for the immigrants (MN gov Dayton).
About Trump all I can say is that he is already a billionaire, and WH is much smaller than his trump tower and probably does not give a shit about lobbyist. But again, it will probably like another carrot in front of us. Everything is up for speculation.
@Stefan Molyneux Does this video still mean anything to you? I just don't see how you can play into the two-party narrative and supporting Trump while simultaneously still holding your past beliefs regarding the futility of voting.
It's pretty amazing how even though the better part of a decade has passed since this video was made and we are now entering a completely different election with completely different candidates, each and every single word Stefan says in this video is still just as true and relevant as it was when he made this video, thus reinforcing the absolute truth in his message.
This is what got me into FDR, not all the politics he is doing today. I get that it is extraordinary times but i fear the voluntarist cause is ceasing from this channel, i have started looking elsewhere for true change
What if the reason that we need facts, is for the purpose of explaining to others, that voting is consenting to be ruled? What if we are looking for facts to show to others. Every time I post anything which talks about why we should not vote--which I completely agree with--this one person always makes pro voting comments on my post. No matter what I say to this person, he continues trying to convince me to vote, and continues to be impossible to convince that he is wrong. I don't know what to do about this person. He frustrates me, and I am looking for some articles or videos which might convince him to at least stop trying to convince me.
Vote, don't vote, Vote republican, democrat socialst......doesn't make a difference......doesn't change your life you are going to be subject only 3 things are certain in life........life, death and taxes.........live life the way you want to ........this is as much nonsense as voting is but live how you want to
I don't vote for scraps, I try to vote for the person who seems like they will do the least damage. So I'm voting Deadpool. I get what your saying though about taking part in a system. Given me a lot to think about. Thanks.
Wish he still held this position. These old videos are the thing that got me into anarchism, non-aggression, voluntaryism, and peaceful parenting. Literally changed my life. Makes me sad to see the direction the channel has gone. Begging Trump to point the gun for you.
A leader rose up that he felt could in fact bring the desired change that is needed to root out the corruption in Washington DC. Simple as that, little snowflake. He still sees the forest through the trees, where you don't. He's still right, to this day. He hasn't changed, you have. Help grab Washington DC by it's throat again in 2020, and help us give it a good shake. VOTE TRUMP.
Gallifreyan Buccaneer There's also no one stopping anyone else from starting a company that protects people's liberty and property. You make the false assumption that if the government doesn't do it then it won't get done.
Ezra You say that like it's a good thing. Anarchy is the most evil ideology possible, not because liberty is bad but because without a government protecting your rights, there's nobody to stop someone else from creating an authoritarian government.
brad6447 I agree with you, but if you had a choice between someone who would shrink the government, even just a little bit, or someone who would expand it, I'd choose the former. Ideally anarchists would not pay taxes but we both know how that turns out. I believe it would be more effective to use the state against itself to make a stateless society wouldn't you agree?
In parts of Europe maybe it's possible. Much smaller governments with less military might. I fell maybe you can vote in small government guys there. In America the system is too corrupt and there is too much money to be made with this war machine/ regulatory state.
Just counting the logical fallacies here..
1. Appeal to Emotion (Have some self respect.)
2. Black or White (Voting for a Democrat or Republican is the only alternative to not voting.)
3. Straw Man (Voting equates to thinking a major-party candidate is going to make significant changes.)
I feel like someone needs to tell him about the Libertarian Party, and that one can vote without being emotionally invested in either the action or the outcome. But sadly, he probably already knows these things and is presenting fallacious arguments because they're all he has to support his illogical opposition to voting.
Well yes, that's what I meant. It's a statement at the very least. Voting doesn't conflict with any anarchist beliefs or goals, except maybe a self-righteous attitude that selfishly wants to avoid any blame for outcomes.
- The realization that "there are no political solutions" may eliminate some political positions as being unrealistic, but it cannot possibly lead to such a precise conclusion about what is realistic. From a historical perspective, anarchy is itself a temporary condition--more temporary than most socio-political arrangements.
People consumed by ideology tend to make a lot of assumptions about those who lack the same convictions, and this is what you seem to be doing. I never suggested voting is a "solution" of any kind, merely that it is a logical course of action.
I, too, have watched this a number of times, and find it a breath of fresh air. But in the eight years, since this video, what has changed? How many of us have woken up? Let's pick our poison: Trump or Hilary, death by financial collapse, natural disaster, war, or Islamic jihad. So much for freedom.
I've felt much this way since the 1970s, although not sure I'd have taken the time/energy to put words to it like this, other than just voting for the least worse choices... Great stuff that hasn't changed it's trajectory much at all, until the last 6-7 years, then accelerated into the abyss...
Hopefully Trump will start turning this ship around. Someone had better, or the country isn't going to last. If he doesn't, it's a lost cause.
So I agree with Stefan Molyneux in general about enslavement to the state. But here is my essential problem/paradox with anarcho-capitalism: Let's suppose we burn this system to the ground and begin again. Voluntary anarcho capitalism is the defacto law of this "no man's land." Because there exist natural asymmetries of ability and power, does ruthless competition not eventually lead to the outcome of one monopolistic superpower above all others? Is this emergent, coercive superpower not simply another way of saying "the state?" In other words, how does a free society enforce the non-aggression principle without becoming an aggressor through the process of enforcing the non-aggression principle?
It's critical to understand that burning down the buildings and killing the politicians does not create a voluntary society. When enough people believe that all governments are slave masters, the world will then change. It wasn't a law the fundamentally ended slavery; it was the enlightened masses that dismissed it as immoral. The law was simply a reflection of the sentiment. A law prohibiting slavery today is useless. If any normal person saw that someone was holding slaves, the word would instantly spread, and the slave holder would either free the slaves or suffer in all likelihood. The same goes for voting. If the "State Police" were to handcuff a member of society, the public would instantly attack in one way or another. Any unauthorized authority would be driven out of society because it represents a threat to voluntary cooperation that society enjoys.
Why give the predators the taxes in the first place? This is the most unbelievable contradiction. Most people give--they knuckle under. But then they hypocritically complain about war. They think their taxes will protect them, but the taxes are used to coerce someone else. Or worse.
You said this in 2008 and it's just as valid in 2016...
"What are your choices? Cranky old fascist versus creepy hands-in-your-pocket socialist? These are your choices and you're going to participate in this?"
Funny how the world never changes, isn't it?
A leader rose up that he felt could in fact bring the desired change that is needed to root out the corruption in Washington DC. Simple as that, little snowflake. He still sees the forest through the trees, where you don't. He's still right, to this day. He hasn't changed, you have.
I miss this Stefan Molyneux. This is the one who changed my life and, indeed, the world, in a positive way. This is the one who helped me understand that government would NEVER do anything positive for mankind. Not sure where this one went though...I heard he's basically stumping for Trump, which is a LONG way from the truth he spoke in this video.
I want THIS Stefan back, please.
