Super helpful. Here's what I learned. Beans keep you full, from the fiber. You should germinate beans before cooking them. Work your way up to 1.5 cups daily. Digestive enzymes helps with gas to counter the enzyme inhibitors in beans. 4:20 The guy on the end can't take a good fart joke, "your wife almost quit", good one!
I don't have a refrigerator so I eat a whole can of organic beans sometimes for 1 meal, which is 3 and a half cups, but I rarely fart or experience the fiber aspect I am trying to stop from taking fiber pills and having painful gut and I am trying to be vegan I don't want to waste money going from holistic doctor to holistic doctor because I don't know how to choose Any help here would be most welcome
I wish these people would stop giving advice. Every human has their own DNA. You need to test your blood to find out exactly what you should or should not eat according to your DNA. One person can eat it but the next person can't. If you suffer from auto immune diseases you should avoid beans until you reverse your condition and repair your leaky gut.
Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink. Then let our countenances be looked upon before thee, and the countenance of the children that eat of the portion of the king's meat: and as thou seest, deal with thy servants.
Sprouting makes them much worse! I couldn't stop farting when I sprouted them. People say your body adapts but I still fart when I eat beans and I've always eaten them. Once you have dysbiosis, fibre will feed the good and the bad bacteria. When I take psyllium powder which is full of soluble fibre you wouldn't want to be in the same room as me trust me!
The thought of not eating legumes in paleo has been dying. Thanks to Chris Kresser and others. The importance of legumes and their prebiotic fiber content cannot be unnoticed. Also, high meat consumption in paleo is a falsehood. Maybe noob paleo eaters have this problem, but the paleo community is leaning toward a higher vegetable intake rather than meat
Lentils are easier to digest than beans and chikpeas, give much less gas, anyways why nobody said we dont need legumes? We can be healthy just the same without beans or even legumes with no significant amount of gas, bloating and discomfort replacing them with potatoes or whole grains, our protein requirement is low for most peoples so it doesnt change anything.
That is how I grew up eating beans as well. As I have aged and got a way from eating them over the years I had a hard time digesting them once I went vegan. After almost a year I can now handle them much better. I want to get back to just wash and cooking, no soaking, because the taste better that way.
5 weeks vegan here. Never ate beans in my life. Here in Belgium we eat it rarely. I'm a non stop farting machine since I eat lentils and chickpeas everyday... Honestly I like it. I don't want it to go away xD
I have plenty of experience... been fully plant based for over seven years (almost eight). I've tested out my body and mind with many, many things during my life. I'm in peak physical and mental condition and I've never felt better. You're just being swindled by a snake... sorry but it's the truth.
Hype on beans is endless but they are also too high in protein and must be moderated. A cup of beans is a huge amount unless your like a two hundred pound man. Protein is not your friend and should be kept to not more than 10% of calories which requires moderating how much beans you eat. The diet should be whole grains staples, potatoes, vegetables, some fruit, and only some beans. That excessive putrid gas from beans tells you something and gets into the body. They are rich in nutrients which is fine but keep them to smaller amounts in diet. Same is true for nuts.
dj121 the starchy staples have considerably less branch chain amino acids. But you should not overdo things like quinoa either. Eat a variety of the starch staples and potatoes, sweet potatoes are very good.
The Artificial Society But you can still get more than 10% calories from protein without beans. I can get 15% just from oats and quinoa and other whole grains, even up to 150 grams in one day, with no legumes at all.
I wish the rest of the panel elaborated more on how their views differ from Clement's. The reason Clement has to worry about lectins is that he doesn't cook his food. When you do cook beans, soaking overnight is enough to get all the harmful stuff out. And everything Davis says about beans' effect on longevity is true of cooked beans, so this where Clement has some explaining to do.
TheBaRolExperience if you're a person in reasonably good health, save yourself the trouble and just eat them soaked overnight and pressure cooked. That gets you 95% of the health benefits. If you're a bed-ridden cancer patient like the people Clement designs diets for, go with his version and you might get that remaining 5%, although even that is debatable. I'm not an expert on the details of sprouting.
I have the same problem when I try out other types of beans like the yellow bean, no gas at all, and of course lentils, no gas. My advice is you experiment with different types of beans you see what works best for your body.
Weird trick, try eating LOTS more beans. Wait for a time that you can be at home to be able to fart every 45 seconds, though. After the beans pass your gut the first time, it gets better. Also, you could use Beano!
Truth Infinite keep at it eating beans that us~cuz it gets better ~ quite quickly~ as your gut biome adjusts...which it WILL!!.
Today I've eaten a bowl of red kidney beans and greens soup, a salad with avocado, black olives, chick peas and black eye peas (OMG, soooo yummy), and red lentils with my dinner. NO gas at all, not ever all day. Took about 4 days til the gas stopped when I first went vegan and began adding beans into my diet~ at least 2 servings daily. At least.
