Dr Breggin. I find you to be an absolute blessing to me. I heard you 20 yrs ago on Georgine Rice program on KPDQ 93.9 Portland, Or. If I could afford your services I would do my best to find my way to visit you. God knows the myriad of trials I've been through since dual TBI and spine Injuries in March of 1985 at the age of 24. I am now 58 and have gone through living hell. If it were not for Jesus setting me free I may have died from prescribed opiates. I don't know if you are a born again christian sir but I trust in your wisdom, expertise and position you take. God bless you sir. Brad

Thank you. I want to wean myself off of quetiapine 50mg. I've been on too many psychotropic drugs for too long. All of the psychiatrists I've been to, including the one I am going to now, seem to think that they are a god and dont care about me[the patient]. I can say the same about therapists who claim to care about their clients, but in all actuality treat them like another paycheck; because to them, "we" are. This and other reasons are why I have absolutely no faith whatsoever in the so-called health (I use this word very lightly) industry. Yet you, Dr. Breggin, may---just may have me believe that not all doctors are medical doctors are heartless.

It's hard to find an advocate in the prescription industry since most m.d.s do not question what they prescribe. They believe in the system.

My kid brother's psychiatric nurse ex-wife's legacy to him and us is a relationship with Effexor (venlafaxine) which, ironically, has lasted longer than his marriage! It was recommended to him via her (on the say so of the psychiatrist at her workplace) as a short-term crutch for his partly job-induced crisis, burn-out state. 8 years on his marriage is over, but his relationship with Effexor is going strong. I feel like I'll never get the boy I grew up with back. Thanks to everyone who made it possible. P.S. Fuck you, Wyeth.

I finally got off of Effexor. Had to do it myself as the doctor wanted me to try a different antidepressant. I've never had depression. It took 4 horrible months of panic attack, electric shock sensations, crying jags, anxiety and dizziness to taper off. Never again.

For years I was given different psych meds. I could fill a notebook page with the names. My state allows medical cannabis now. Since I started medicating with cannabis..I have not needed psych meds on a daily basis. I still carry around 1-2 pills of the last med I was given (in case I get into a crisis)

Will never have my kids take adderall or psychiatric pills. First you need to change there diet and quality of life. There are so many alternatives to take which are safer and more effective and can improve there life tremendously. So much we dont know about. Most of us are blinded by what else is out there that can improve our mental and physical health. Pills may be the only option if nothing else works but dont be jumping on the pills like it's nothing. Somethings wrong with your body take that sign as "I need to change my way of living"

Chemical weapons for population reduction. Donald Rumsfeld, case in point. Wikipedia: When Ford lost the 1976 election, Rumsfeld returned to private business and financial life and was named the president and CEO of the pharmaceutical corporation G. D. Searle & Company. He was later named CEO of General Instrument from 1990 to 1993 and chairman of Gilead Sciences from 1997 to 2001. Rumsfeld was appointed Secretary of Defense for a second time in January 2001 by President George W. Bush. During his tenure, he aimed to modernize and restructure the U.S. military for the 21st century. Rumsfeld played a central role in the planning of the United States' response to the September 11 attacks, Quite a coincidence! More than one journalist has uncovered corrupt connections between the Bush Family, psychiatry, and Eli Lilly & Company, the giant pharmaceutical corporation. While previous Lillygates have been more colorful, Lilly’s soaking state Medicaid programs with Zyprexa—its blockbuster, antipsychotic drug—may pack the greatest financial wallop. Worldwide in 2003, Zyprexa grossed $4.28 billion, accounting for slightly more than one-third of Lilly’s total sales. In the United States in 2003, Zyprexa grossed $2.63 billion, 70 percent of that attributable to government agencies, mostly Medicaid. This is an example of the men who run the Pharmaceutical Industry. Murder for Money. The top positions in the Military. Please consider termination of your support in these businesses and go natural.

I had been on it olanzapine and paroxetine for 3 years. I stopped it an year ago without much tapering. For last year I have been facing severe insomnia and mania . I just could manage to get 5 hr sleep a day. Now I have started drug olanzapine and paroxetine again due to hopelessness brought by insomnia and fear of going mad. What should be my approach? Should I keep low dose as possible without discontinuing the antidepressants? I am confused. Please help!!!

Here are a few tips that may help some of you: 1) Getting off antidepressants can be challenging. While cold turkey is possible, tapering off is usually better. Be aware that some of these drugs (e.g. Prozac aka Fluoxetine) come in a liquid form that makes gradual tapering off much much easier. You can literally dose it with an eye-dropper and very gradually lower your dose over a period of several weeks or months. Fluoxetine has a long half-life which helps that tapering off go more smoothly. 2) For those of you that are unable to go completely off meds, another advantage of the liquids is that they make taking smaller dosages possible and a very small dose may be all that you need. E.g. instead of taking 20, 40, 60 or 80 mg of Prozac, you might be okay taking 2 mg or 4 mg. These doses are easily done with the liquid form and will cause far fewer side effects. 3) Fish Oil can help tremendously but you need to take a large dose (2 to 10 grams daily) and you need to find a brand that is high in EPA relative to DHA. If you've tried standard fish oil and it hasn't helped, try it again using one that's enriched in EPA. 4) Manage your blood sugar. You don't have to be hypoglycemic or diabetic to have a blood sugar problem. This is a complex topic and exactly what path is best will vary from person to person, but cutting way back on sugar and refined carbohydrates is going help nearly everyone. Some of you will need to go on ketogenic diet or even carnivore diet for maximal benefit. 5) Gut health is a big part of this. I'm sure you've heard this before and there's a ton of information available, so don't ignore it. Fixing the gut can be tricky because the gut and the nervous system are inextricably linked. Your gut can be malfunctioning because of your nervous system and your nervous system can be malfunctioning because of your gut (e.g. leaky gut or dysbiosis).

I have found out first hand how awful these psych drugs are. I have always trusted Drs. I have always followed what they told me to do and what they prescribed. I have been forced to cold Turkey benzodiazepines 3 different times. The last time a month ago in a psychiatric hospital. I was prescribed clonazepam this last time for a little over a year and I started having horrible side effects which I thought I was having a nervous breakdown. The doctor there stopped the medication cold Turkey.. I will never trust doctors again.

Sir eight years back, when I was in my graduation, I was little confused about my career and so was anxious and not able to concentrate. So I visited psychiatrist for consultation and he after asking me certain questions ,he then prescribed me citalopram and inderal (propranolol ) for anxiety and heart palpitations. I took it and from the first dose only I started feeling something unusual weird and tight ness in my lower left abdomen. I continued for a week then stopped it and again visited psychiatrist and he told it will subside after few days but I left it after two days. But from that day onwards I always felt that tight ness , spasms and cramps like feelings on the lower abdomen left side and that also at one point only. My hunger pains which I used to feel at centre of my abdomen got shifted towards my lower left side, the lower left side became the region of trouble, I had all sorts of gastrointestinal complaint s then , there was one spot at left abdominal part deep inside where I used to feel as if some contraction is happening the region above it used to feel as if some gas is filled always felt bloated had bowel issues also .Never had bowel as I used to have before start of antidepressants. The more I study the more burning I have in my lower left part and it then radiates or feel something moves straight from there to mind even my left eye also have little swelling sometimes. My bowel s are if they are passing through some deformed or flattened pipe inside .Stiching or stabbing like pains I used to feel.My hunger was not the same now, I am not able to digest milk and many other things, cannot eat oily or spicy and also I never used to have bowel pressure early morning as earlier. Earlier I used to have heart palpitations on anxious but now I always have palpitations in my lower left quadrant at the spot which I mentioned before.Whenever I do jumping i feel as if something is moving up down left side. My career came to halt, I went to psychiatrist so that he will make me score good in academic but wasn't knowing he will bring it to a stand still. Initially thought to be a gastro complaint consulted them and none of their medicine had any impact on the area except that smooth muscles medicine normaxin but that also to very less extent. I had three abdominal ultrasound, one upper GI endoscopy with biopsy, one colonoscopy, stool test ,urine test, blood test all were normal. Finally I had CT scan of abdomen and pelvis with contrast which was also normal except it mentioned that there are mild multilevel degenerative changes are seen in lumbar spine. During these period of 8 years visited more than six gastroenterologist but of no use. Some of them use to say it's IBS ,some say colitis, some used to refer to me to psychiatrist, neurologist. And again they used to say it is because of depression and prescribe SSRI but I never had depression. To this day I regret of consulting psychiatrist I think it has caused me some permanent damage in functioning of my lower left colon region or it may have caused me some form of paralysis there.I tried even alternative forms big treatment but everything fails Even Ayurveda and homeopathic doesn't have much impact on me. I like to do yoga but breathing exercises and pranayama used to aggravate the condition.Whenever I take deep breath I feel as if air is getting filled in my lower abdomen only and starts to feel bloated. So I left this . Even I do exercises also little only because of this. Whenever I tell psychiatrist about their medicine ill effect they don't believe and tell me there is every thing on your head. If I have my way I will make them take all SSRI, benzos , SNRI and then only they will know how it ruins one's life and career . Hope you may throw some light on my issues and provide me some good approach to make it normal.

I went from 240lb to 465 on Olanzapine (Zyprexa) in a few short months. Had two heart attacks when my boneheaded nazi of a prescribing nurse gave me one bottle of 30, 2mg Valium (diazapam)-- she gave me 0 refills, after i had been on the maximum dose of 10mg per day for 3 years...had two heart attacks as a result. I have permanent and frequent muscle spasms as a result of missing too many doses of Abilify. I have schizophrenia, and have suffered 14 years of unending voices and visual hallucinations-- nearly full blown for 14 years, and NONE of the pharmaceutical antipsychotics I took ever helped. I had to lie and pretend to be well to get released from the state hospital after I unknowingly signed away my freedom in a temporary mental hospital when I wasn't thinking clearly during an intense psychotic episode. Now, my schizophrenia is in remission after using full spectrum CBD oil for only a few weeks. It helped with paranoid thoughts, delusions, and mania almost instantly. It quieted down the voices significantly after a few weeks. Visual hallucinations are non existant now. No side effects, just relief, and the minor pain killing qualities help my (very) minor back pain too, which is a plus. My thought patterns aren't problematic anymore. I live in reality now, not delusion-land. The oil I use is from genetically identical cloned plants-- grown the same way, every time-- ensuring its consistency. It contains 0.00% THC, and is rich in CBD, CBG, and CBC. I have yet to identify the cause of my schizophrenia, due largely to incompetent mental health professionals and a lack of knowledge on my part (until recently), but I am getting my blood tested for 5 possible causes: over-methylation, under-methylation, pyrrole disorder, thyroid imbalance, and excess gluten...once I figure out the cause, I will treat it accordingly. It may be as easy as taking high doses of instant release niacin (b3). In the meantime, this CBD oil is keeping me sane. Thanks for posting this, I agree, pharmaceutical psych meds are dangerous, and greed is their motivator.

People should go back to school and do the math! even if 1% or 2% of patients die from sudden death for example the drugs from EI lilly, and 3 or 4 million patients are taking the drug, that's a lot of people that the drug is killing. Even if the % is lower at .5% if millions of people are taking these drugs, the side effect is effecting thousands of people. The % can be low but the more people taking the drug a higher number of people will have that side effect. I've always been in favour of some EI illy drugs being discontinued and pulled off the market as these are a very dangerous drugs, I have concerns about the general adult population consuming these drugs, and I am troubled that they would be giving these drugs to children.

American psychiatry needs a total change. The laws in the majority of states accepting abiotic drugs that cause harm like this are faulty. Laws old with dyskinesia like I will f****** be one day if I don't get off Clozaril successfully. The healthcare overlords are limiting me. It's legal addiction and death in the long run from what this man describes with antipsychotics. Forms of Cannabis could relieve my symptoms without painful addiction but I don't have legal access in my state. I plan on moving to a different state cause legal medication is an ignored tragedy in 85% of our nation.

The antipsychotics/neuroleptics, the so called "schizophrenia" treatments, that are also now being given to many other people for many other reasons, can create both the negative and positive symptoms of "schizophrenia." The negative symptoms (lethargy et al) are created via neuroleptic induced deficit syndrome, and the positive symptoms (hallucinations, psychosis, et al) are created via antipsychotic induced anticholinergic toxidrome. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neuroleptic-induced_deficit_syndrome https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toxidrome By the way, that is the medical proof that the primary etiology of "the sacred symbol of psychiatry" is of an iatrogenic, not genetic, nature. And, as Whitaker pointed out, the antidepressants and ADHD drugs create the "bipolar" symptoms. https://www.alternet.org/story/146659/are_prozac_and_other_psychiatric_drugs_causing_the_astonishing_rise_of_mental_illness_in_america Thank you for honestly speaking out about the dangers of the psychiatric drugs, Dr. Breggin.

Too many doctors use these drugs for a fix all. Instead of running diagnostic tests to get real diagnosis for full body pain, fatigue, chest pain, headache and so on. The anxiety, depression, and sleep issues can be result of other diseases and medical conditions and are NOT the primary symptoms but a secondary issue. These drugs compound the issues. The WORST withdrawal to boot! They do dumb you down and twist reality making you increasingly aggravated and aggressive while you're not getting actual medical care for the undiagnosed diseases. That is enough to make you CRAZY and the perfect storm to SNAP. like this man says the chemical imbalance in your brain begins for many AFTER starting these drugs. It can take years for them to leave your body as they get into your bones.

Thank you for the information! I'm very hooked on Zopiclone, at the moment, taking about 33.75mg per night, but I will take coming-off them VERY seriously now; I've had a cavalier approach, until seeing this video. I'm middle-aged and have been prescribed mood-altering drugs, since I was 19, so, for 30+ years. My private doctor (as opposed to my N.H.S. doctor, in the UK) dished-out Zopiclone liberally and then stopped suddenly, about 3-4 months ago, and, since then, I've been getting box-loads of the drug from an international pharmaceutical company, via the internet, all the way from India. Being orphaned at the age of 10 and suffering so much abuse, ever since then, a little bit of love and kindness might have gone a long way, to prevent my recourse to prescription drugs. I'm sure that most or many people taking prescription drugs are in a similar situation, where a little bit of love could have assisted them, in feeling supported and, thereby, allowing their own bodies to produce contented hormones, for good functioning. (*sighs*)

Canadian docs think they are better then the masses cause of the difference in what they know. They don't care that they are just torturing suffering poor people with drugs that can never end their poverty, they want to silence them with mind drugs and docs use that to silence the poor. They will serve you free drugs but not free food. people do starve in Canada, the difference between rich and poor is so insane. I was slowly starving to death in welfare from seizures, couldn't make it to an exact time and place for some specialist appointment in another city months down the road i was bedridden hald the time. Docs don't care if you have nowhere safe to live they just want to make money off you and send you back into poverty with more drugs and no food just so they can laugh about you being a frequent flyer because all they are doing is taking advantage of someones health problems for a paycheck and doing nothing to keep them from ending up back in there. Cops and docs hold poverty in place.

The part he said about being given stimulants , seems to be a valid point.

Took Zoloft for depression. Had thoughts and imaginings I have never had! Also made me a zombie. Researched and found otc supp, 5HTP. It was effective and didn’t alter my state of mind. The ingredient is tryptophan.

Great video! Most people are just slaves to their physicians and they don't realize the long-term damage that they're doing to themselves. God Bless!

I know how dangerous stopping the drugs can be, I still experience the debilitating effects almost a decade later. :/
