Ah, I get what you mean (I did a bit of studying up on chaotic motion for one of my GCSE art projects). The formula goes something like: x=> P(x-1) -x [or something similar.. I forget]. And so essentially you have an initial x, plug it into the formula, solve it, and that becomes the new x, and is placed in again. The callcard of chaos is that the smallest change in x results in a large change in the second x. This means no general trend can be applied. It also means the practical error suckx

They told a white lie in the video. It's not impossible per se to predict it but because it (can be) so sensitive to initial conditions it is, in practice, not feasable to measure or compute with the accuracy needed what it will do after the first few swings. If you knew exactly where it started, and no other forces but the earth's gravity were at play (no friction in joints, no air resistance etc. ) then you could in theory calculate the future Newtonian motion, with a powerful enough computer.

Two quick questions: If it is still behaving according to Newtonian physics, then Is it not Predictable what it would do next? That and If you made a jig, so that you were abolutely sure that you were dropping it from the same point... and for the sake of thoroughness, in a vacuum, would it not fall in the same way each time, as all the vavriables are the same?
