Brilliant fights, personally i would have put Ali v Frazier in manilla, that and Benn - mcclellan were such amazing fights that they could be used as an advert against boxing for the brutality, best of luck to mcclellan and rip Ali, we'll never see the likes again 😢
I don't see boxe as sport. Unfortunately there are a lot of money envolved and the show can't stop, that's why the few guys that are making money out of it still keeping it as sport and promoting the "glamour".
Rope-a-Dope... actually quite easy to beat, throw some hooks to make him cover up while moving your own head, then punish him with uppercuts and overhooks. Mike Tyson would be the perfect fighter to beat this tactic.
At the very least the Hagler/Leonard fight should have been a draw & Hagler should have retained the title however,in my opinion, if you are the challenger, you have to CLEARLY beat the champion, and Leonard DID NOT do that. I don't care anything about the number of punches Leonard threw. This is PRO boxing NOT amateur boxing. He never hurt Hagler & spent most of the time running. I understand that Leonard's style is evasive but in this particular fight, it was a MAJOR turn off. His punches were not effective enough to d ANY damage, no matter how pretty they looked. HAGLER WON!!!
McClellan was known to be involved in dogfighting and let his pitbull kill a Lab with its jaws taped shut? Well then Karma has come back to get you, you fucking bum! Have fun shitting in a bag for the rest of your life. Too bad the same thing didn't happen to Michael Vick. They should have put McClellan in the ring with his pitfbull with his hands tied behind his back, completely naked, with A1 sauce on his balls!
Ali won, but must have been in incredible shape to take that beating from Foreman. There's lots of talk about slack ropes etc. but Ali took a huge amount of punishment. He won, but how much damage did it do?
Jo Frazier versus Muhammad Ali and George Foreman versus Muhammad Ali two classic fights ever in the boxing history and I must say that Muhammad Ali is the best boxer in the history of boxing. May Allah keep him rest in peace.
The half-white Cassius Clay would have been a good boxer if is skills were half as prevalent as his mouth. It is a shame that mayweather didn't box in the era of great boxers , because everyone knows that he would have been dominated relentlessly.
Watched that Ali v foreman fight with my dad (replay, not live) and I remember asking "dad, why are foremans hands flyin around and wiggling all over the place?" He smiled and said "because Mohammed Ali is the greatest fighter of all-time".
sfgmanCA,, great story!...I watched the "thrilla n Manilla" with my dad, he was a Smoking Joe fan, but he respected Ali's talents and spoke of them all through the fight. It was the first time I ever watched a heavy weight bout with these two greats. Best fight of all time in my opinion, and a favorite experience of mine. Dad and me.
opinions! to bad Ali was from a before Tyson era. Nobody in Ali's era could hit him solidly in the '60s and due to unfortunate incidences, we never got to see the best of Ali, but he was retiring the heavy weight division that existed before he was suspended and lost his license. In the '70s he didn't have the same "dancing" stamina, reflexes or hand speed, and he still kicked some ass. If Frazier, Forman and Shavers couldn't hurt Ali, how could Tyson? Tyson on the other hand got knocked out on a couple of title fights in.
Foreman should learn from the FRAZIER defeat of ALI, his ego didn't let him and he lost. What did foreman not do that Frazier did do ?well in the FRAZIER VS ALI fight ,Ali did try the rope-a-dope but it failed miserably against JOE simply because FRAZIER was a much better strategist than FOREMAN, FRAZIER realised that to counter the rope-a-dope he needed to HUG Ali in order to be able to connect with his face and body and Frazier spent the whole fight throwing hard punches from inside Ali defensive zone ,Frazier did not use any long punches from the outside but look at what a difference in the way Foreman fought Ali, he punches were all from a distance outside the danger zone which means all Ali had to do was lean way back each time FOREMAN threw one of his punches that would put any boxer to sleep if it connected and why did Foreman not do what Frazier did and when Ali's face was unavailable just punish Ali ribs, kidneys, heart or liver, instead mistake number 2 FOREMAN focused only on ALI'S face why?he had so many many chances at Ali's body, when FRAZIER hugged Ali at the ropes even when Ali use the rope-a-dope Frazier made Ali's head bounce back like a pinaydia had foreman hugged Ali at the ropes the rope-a-dope would not have worked and Ali would have been knocked out by Foreman!! If you don't believe me just watch ALI VS Frazier 71' then watch Ali vs Foreman in the rumble in the jungle.
THE GEORGE FOREMAN VS MO ALI WAS NOT EVEN ONE OF THE GREATEST FIGHT IN BOXING HISTORY,IT WAS ACTUALLY QUITE UNEVENTFUL SINCE GEORGE WAS UNABLED TO DO TO ALI WHAT HE DID TO FRAZIER,SO IN FACT IT WAS RATHER BORING,ALI STOOD BACK AND LET FOREMAN PUNCH HIMSELF OUT THEN EVEN THOUGH FOREMAN WAS ABLE TO GET UP BEFORE THE 8 COUNT THE REFEREE DECIDED THAT IT WAS OVER WIT FOREMAN COMPLETELY RECOVERED AND COULD HAVE CONTINED,NOTICE HOW THE REFEREE WAS SO QUICK TO CALL IT A KO HE FORGOT TO HOLD FOREMAN'S HAND AND ASK HIM IF HE WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE,I HAVE SEEN FIGHTERS COME BACK FROM WORSE KNOCK DOWNS AND WIN.
Forman couldn't continue, he was exhausted. He never went passed two rounds before, eight rounds was about the best he could do. That and those lightning fast strikes of Ali's were starting to swell his eyes, if he trained for and had the stamina to go 15, he would have fought the last four blind, just like Frazier in Manila.
Saw this one too. When they started having Ppv at movie theaters yea another great fight. I believe Hagler felt robbed and didn’t fight but a few times. He wa real salty about this fight. I’m writing before watching. If I remember right. It fo the distance
I was 12 years old at the time of this fight. I still remember it. Watching it now I can see so much more. I’ve never in all my years of watching fights seen anyone fight off the ropes as well as Ali. Yea I think this was in the top 3 greatest of all time. There are a couple when they used to fight 20 plus rounds. We’ll neva top those. Thank God
